Severe pain in bump

I’m 35 weeks and in agony here. This week but hips and back have started playing up and then I developed a pain on the lower left side of my bump. Had it for a few days now and it’s getting worse. Woke up every time I had to move last night. Rolling over in bed is a nightmare. I can’t sit up without yelping. I can’t walk around without shuffling and crying ouch. I’m going to ring the midwife but I don’t think they’re around until after 9am.

Has anyone had similar? Can you pull/strain a round ligament? Everything I’ve read says round ligament pain is sudden twinges (which I’ve had previously when sneezing etc) but this is constant and really stabs when I move Sad

I’ve been told to go into triage and be assessed by a doctor. It’s likely ligaments but needs a pain management plan, but they also want to rule out infection etc.

Paracetamol helped for about an hour but it’s already ramping up again Sad

It’s PGP. Any advice?

I had physio for pgp and was given huge tubigrip to wear over pelvis. Combination of the two helped a lot.Was also advised to give birth on my knees ( not on back). Take care OP. Lots of sympathy!

firstly take a rest! lying on your left side, with ideally a long thick pillow between your knees AND ankles. keep adjusting until you feel some relief, then stay there for a bit and let it calm down. Listen to some hypnobirthing positivity tracks, and do some breathing exercises, and consider using heat or cold on the pain area - whichever feels nicest (always heat for me!) The pain can cause stress and fear and it really makes things worse, so you need to dial that down!

  • hopefully once the pain is down a bit you can think straight

-avoid putting weight on one leg ever

-move slowly and thoughtfully, try to keep knees together, take small steps

-sit straight and tall, with knees always below pelvis. use cushions to help achieve this on the sofa/when driving etc

  • when you can face it, try some GENTLE stretching which should help loosen things. try number 7 on this video, it's my favourite

Thanks both. I’ve been referred to a physio, although no idea what practiced help that will be in the pandemic. I’ve ordered a belt on prime, hoping it arrives tomorrow. Been given a leaflet of exercise although haven’t tried those yet. I’m grateful I’ve only got it this late (although pretty annoyed that I literally just finished work and these were my few weeks to relax and now this happens!) but at least I’ve only got to tough it out for a few weeks. I know some people get it a lot earlier in their pregnancies. It agony!

35 weeks and my SPD has ramped up- constantly pain and stiffness. I carry low so my hips feel like they are breaking anyway. You have my sympathy! Last time I had this swimming helped, less easy now a days

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 02/10/2020 19:24

Yes I considered a swim but our borough still hadn’t opened the public pools yet! And I’m not sure I’d risk it anyway. I fancied a nice warm bath but genuinely worried I won’t be able to get out again! Think I’ll try filling a hot water bottle

Lots of tips on the pelvic partnership website. Google it.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 02/10/2020 23:08

Thanks, I’ll have a look. Had an awful evening, literally can’t move. Took ages to crawl up the stairs to bed and DH had to undress me and push/pull me into bed. It’s ridiculous, I can’t to anything and I have a toddler to look after Sad

I'm 14 weeks. I've had it since 8 weeks this time. Was housebound by 32 weeks last time. You're preaching to the choir!

My 18 month old becomes more mobile as I become less and less so.

Find a practitioner who will manipulate the joints (list on pelvic partnership). You've got enough time left that you don't want to further deteriorate. You've got this. You can handle it. But you've also got a max of 7 weeks to wrap your head round it.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 03/10/2020 11:52

@physicskate that sounds awful Sad I am so grateful I didn’t get this any earlier as I honestly don’t think I could have coped (this is one in a long line of pregnancy complications including ongoing HG). I’ve ended up getting some stronger painkillers from the hospital while I wait for my belt to turn up and hoping the physio gets in contact with me next week.
