Hi, I am 33 weeks pregnant and since my last scans (20, 28 & 32) the Sonographer said that my placenta low lying posterior and anterior, my Scan at 28 weeks the consultant said prepare for a c section as it is unlikely to move. Since my last scan at 32 weeks the Sonographer couldn’t get a clear image and said she is hopeful all will be fine by the time I go back for a scan at 36 weeks. I feel a little uneasy not knowing what is going on exactly and why they couldn’t get a proper image last week. Has this happened to anyone and what was the outcome? He also has a head measuring on the 94th percentile which they didn’t seem worried about but I think that sounds huge! Thanks

Hi Flowers,
I think I'm in the same situation as you. I'm 34 weeks and had a scan on Monday to check my placenta. Mine is low lying and anterior and is 1.6cm away from my cervix. Baby's head was very low and pressing on it too. She also did a growth scan and the baby has dropped from the 97th to 50th percentile. So I guess potentially my placenta might not be working so well and could be affecting the growth. I've got to go back at 36 weeks for an internal scan and one on my tummy then meet with the consultant. I feel uneasy too!!I'm not sure how likely my placenta is too move, especially if the baby's head is on it! Another 2 weeks seems a long time to wait. I am trying not to worry too much. Have you had any bleeding? I haven't had any. Is this your first baby? X

Mine was low at my 20 week. Then at my 32 week scan it had moved from low to major placenta praevia. I had a scan at 35 weeks trans vaginal and abdo scan and it has moved now (which they weren't expecting) but now it's low and anterior which means it's covering the incision site for c section and is too low for natural birth. I've been told I will have to be under general anesthesia so they can control the bleeding when baby is being born. I'm devastated but they are going to scan me again in three weeks to see if it moves enough for it to be safe for a natural birth.

Request a trans vaginal scan to get a clearer picture at 36 weeks (this is usually when they confirm a plan of action!)

@DisneyGirl2387 I hope you are ok and looking forward to your arrival, we are very similar my baby boys head was blocking the picture and resting on the placenta to but they said they think it might move by 36 weeks but I wish I had a definitive answer. This is my second baby and had no bleeding which I feel relieved about how about you? I hope you find your answers soon and good luck with everything :)

@futuredreams hi, thank you they said they will do a trans vaginal scan at 36 weeks to know for sure but just wanted to see if anyone had similar symptoms and what their outcome was. I hope you have the outcome you want in a few weeks and although being under general is not great they can monitor you really well, good luck :)

I'm in a similar position to @futuredreams, although I've had complete / major placenta praevia since it was first identified at 20wks (now 32 weeks). I don't think anyone is expecting mine to move now, but I'm being scanned every week or two (for other things too).

I'm also expecting to need a GA due to the blood loss predicted from cutting through the placenta, and can't do delayed cord clamping. Obvs not what I would choose, but I've come to terms with it now.

I'm sure the consultant will go through everything with you and form a clear plan after your next scans. Mine was all just sped up due to significant bleeds (have been on hospital bed rest since end Aug).
