So confused about birth

This might sound like a stupid question but... I’m due in 6 weeks- I have a very small bump and feel pretty ‘normal’ not much has changed with my body and I’ve not really struggled in the third trimester at all.
My question is, how do you know your body will be ready to give birth? Will there start to be changes and signs? I just can’t imagine my body being ready within the next 6 weeks (or 8 if over due) it just doesn’t seem possible.
Has anyone had this? I feel like I’ll be pregnant forever!

Ready or not, your baby will be coming out. I wouldn't even worry about it because your body will know what to do, and if you need help or a push to get things going, your doctor/midwife will take care of that. Just enjoy feeling well and look forward to your new arrival.

Ah mate - you would super duper benefit from the positive birth company’s course; I’m on my second pregnancy and did a different hypnobirthing Course last time, and totally swear by it. I bought the positive birth co course as an online refresher, and have learned even more cool stuff!

They explain how in a non-induced labour it’s your baby that starts the signal to tell your body when to go into labour! So your baby decides the timing!

It’s a great course, all videos to watch in your own time x

It might be worth you checking out hypnobirthing if you haven’t already - the Positive Birthing Company course I did was super useful for me to learn all about this and what to expect! In particular, learn the invisible signs I was getting ready for birth - wanting you be in the warm, dark places in my house, Braxton hicks contractions and the bloody show etc. Best of luck with it all, I know birth is different for everyone but I found it a very empowering and positive experience. I wish I’d focused a bit more on thinking about what was going to come after birth!

@Gerdticker we’ve posted at the same time about the same course, we’re going to get ourselves banned for looking like bots 😂

@Aquamarine1029 thanks for replying- I’m really enjoying these last few weeks but I find the uncertainty of when it will happen really odd! Hopefully all will happen as it’s supposed to

@Gerdticker @BeamerTown thank you both. So funny because I literally came across the positive birth company the other day and was interested to find out more! Deffo will get the digital pack- think with the lack of anti natal classes it might be exactly what I need x

Your body will be doing all sorts of things to prepare that you aren't aware of.
At 38 weeks I was convinced I would be going overdue. My bump was still high and the head wasn't engaged. My waters broke at 38+6 and I gave birth before lunch. I had legs in my ribs all the way through my labour so I don't think my bump was ever going to drop!

I was lucky I had a short labour but at no point did I have to question what my body was going to do, in the second stage the midwife gave some gentle pointers and encouragement but broadly speaking I listened to my bodies cues. I was able to stay quite relaxed throughout using things that help my anxiety normally from talking to other mums it was similar to what they learnt in hypnobirthing classes.

You've got this! And if you don't, the midwives will help you through it.

I'm also an advocate for the PBC, it was a perfect course!

@Superscientist thank you for sharing! Sounds like it is possible to have very few signs before hand! I really don’t want to be overdue as I have high blood pressure and a few other conditions which would mean they would deffo want to induce and I would really like to avoid if possible.

@latheritup thank you- I feel I HAVE to get it now 😂
