Can IVF due date move after 12 week scan?

Hello,
I had ivf in July finally after nearly 4 tough years TTC (hang on in there if you’re going through it!)
Very happily nearly 12 weeks pregnant and I have a quick question on dates please.
I worked out due date based on my ivf dates and wondering if it can change after my 12 week scan (which is actually more 13 weeks)?
I had my ivf scan at 8 weeks and we also did a private scan at 10 weeks so my husband could see as nhs didn’t allow him in for scans - or even egg transfer :( so he felt a bit detached and it was so amazing for him to see the wriggly one.
The 10 week private scan lady said I was measuring 2-3 days behind what I thought my dates were but it was normal and not to worry.
Because I know ivf dates for sure will my due date always stay the same?
Thank you! Xx
(Needless to say it’s my first pregnancy)

Yer the NHS always take the 12 week scan dates not the IVF dates even though obviously you know the IVF dates are right!

My friend had IVF and they changed her date based on the scan and it really annoyed her when they kept saying the baby came early (36 weeks according to the NHS scan) because she knew she was actually 38 weeks!

I insisted they went with my ivf dates. I was concerned about being forced down the induction route for being overdue when I wasn't.

Even though you know your IVF dates and they are usually very accurate, babies can grow at different rates, thats why they wait till 12 week scan to date a pregnancy properly, if your dates are going to change it will be by a few days which in the grand scheme of things won't make a difference, I'd only ask them to take IVF dates if it ended up being a week out!

Didn’t have ivf but I know exactly when my ds was conceived. I was paying very close attention to everything after ttc for a very long time. My 12 week scan agreed absolutely with me. But by my 20 week scan the baby wasn’t quite the right size and due date was moved forward by nearly a week even though I protested that I knew exactly when he was conceived. MW was just insistent that she had to change the date. Anyway I went into labour on the original/correct due date, so nearly a week “late”. Had he been any later midwives would probably have started to pipe up about induction etc but I was prepared to fight my corner.

Honestly don’t stress too much about it(I did!) l. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

It depends on the type of IVF you had - if it was short protocol or a natural FET then they would use your last period date and then adjust it at the 12 week scan depending on how big the baby measured

If you did long protocol so down regged not had a period within "normal" timescales then people tend to push to use the IVF date

I'm having IVF twins but it was a natural modified IVF protocol. My due date was brought forward by 5 days purely because the larger twin was measuring bigger

Firstly I don't think it's normal for DH to be in the theater for embryo transfer. That's not a covid thing. Embryo transfer is one of the most difficult bits about IVF and the bit that is most likely to influence the clinics success rates.

Yes the NHS will move dates based on the babies size, with my natural pregnancy they moved it about a week, with my IVF they moved it a day.

Interestingly enough my natural baby even as a 9yo is very slender and short. My IVF baby is now 3yo very short but of a more average build.

Thanks so much everyone! I will wait to see what happens at 12 week scan then. And relax like some of you say! All very new as first pregnancy. I was fresh short protocol cycle. Thanks for everyone replying so reassuringly and so quickly Xx

@bikingbear My husband was there for embryo transfer my our four failed IUI cycles. The hospital wrote and explained that due to covid my Husband wouldn’t be allowed in to ET with our ivf cycle. So it was different.

@Bikingbear meant IUI transfer obviously not embryo transfer. x

It was normal at my clinic (pre-covid) for partners to be in the room for ET.

ivfbeenbusy · 29/09/2020 09:50

Normal at my clinics too to have partner there it's just I've always done them on my own as he's been at work/needed to look after DD.

More fun anyway without him - I get to choose a transfer song and after the first 3 failed transfers having something smaltzy IVF/baby themed songs like "say a little a prayer" I went with Kings of Leon "Sex on fire" - obviously worked as having twins!

croft85 · 29/09/2020 10:16

@ivfbeenbusy yes yes yes to sex on fire, great choice! Very happy to hear it worked.
I didn’t get music - it was the quickest process in and out - but counting my lucky stars for it xxxx
