Hi, I’m 22 and I’ve just found out I’m 5/6 weeks pregnant. Over the past few days I’ve had a lot of cramping in my tummy but last night I had terrible pain under my right ribs and trapped wind as well as needing to go to the toilet a lot. Did anyone else have this?

Pregnancy can cause all kinds of digestive discomfort, so it’s not that unusual. However, for pain which is more serious or sustained than cramping it’s worth being checked over. Have you registered with maternity services yet? If not I would so so and just mention the pain to them. If it has resolved they may just tell you to keep an eye on it and call if it happens again, but they may want to see you for a scan in the next couple of weeks.

As I said, it’s almost certainly just digestive troubles, but don’t be afraid to ever speak to a midwife if something is concerning you!

Hi thank you for your response. I rang my doctors today and they said I could register but no midwife would be in contact until I was around 8/9 weeks. So I’m basically on my own with these symptoms?

Read through those and, if they ring true, seek medical advice from your local early pregnancy unit, 111, A and E (if severe) or your GP (if mild/during the day and you can get an appointment quickly).

100% this. Week 4 was all cramps and wind (burps and roots Blush). Week 5, still burpy!
