Has anyone had to have their baby turned?
It's looking likely as my baby is transverse, no particular reason other than she's comfy.
I've read a few horror stories so was just wondering what other people's experiences were please.
Did it work? Did your labour start early? Did you have a csection?
Thanks in advance lovely ladies x

Hi, no previous experience as FTM. But in the same situation - transverse and they mentioned ECV as an option and then a planned c-section. I think I’ve decided against the ECV as baby has time to turn (33weeks atm) if he’d like and the ECV it may work but he may also want to turn back anyway. I’ve heard it’s very painful to go through and it may not be successful anyway. I know it can work on the other hand as well 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for your reply. I'm in the same situation as you 32weeks and got the midwife in a couple of weeks. I'm umming and arring about the ECV too as I don't want to go through with it and like you say baby turn back and end up with a csection anyway.
I really didn't want a csection but when I've looked at the risks of going into labour with a transverse baby it's just not worth it and I'd sooner have a planned one.
This is my third baby, following 2 natural births.

Exactly, the decision is the one only you can make. I’ve spoken to as many people as possible and family members, watched videos on it and also asked Mumsnet and I just came to the conclusion not to have it. However, the planned c-section is something I will probably go for if baby is still in the same position. They told me that before they do it they’ll scan me to check if he’s moved or not anyway so still chance for a natural birth anyway. My next appointment is next week where we’ll see if baby has moved! I feel like he has moved but as FTM I have no idea really what position he is in lol

LRHRN · 28/09/2020 15:27

@MrsAJKA yes I agree and I'm doing the same, trying to get as much information as possible.
My baby has been in this position since a scan at 16weeks and her legs are ridiculously long so she's probably just comfy but we shall see what happens over the next few weeks.
If you remember would you mind please keeping me up to date as you're slightly in front of me 💕

Yes, will do! No worries 🥰

Hi, I had one with my first DD which unfortunately did not work, for me it was uncomfortable but not painful, if anything I think I was just overwhelmed and scared by the procedure which didn't work. However I know a few women who have had it and it worked. I was told by them if it hurts it doesn't work! I was willing to try and it did not harm to baby in doing so but I ended up having the csection and the stubborn little one still hadn't moved!

MrsH497 · 28/09/2020 16:35

I had one in May at 39+1. It didn't work and we ended up with a c section but after surgery we discovered baby had her arm behind her back and cord round her neck so glad the consultant didn't push the ecv. Given her position there was no way it was going to work!
I had my section the next day (just because of how far along I was and it was a free slot)

It was uncomfortable not painful they offered gas and air for me. Was monitored before and after and had an injection to relax my uterus. I was so nervous but no pain. I did bruise though x

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 28/09/2020 17:25

I was offered an ECV for my transverse DD but turned it down.

As pp said it's a really personal decision, but as well as weighing up the medical pros and cons I had a really instinctive feeling that I didn't want anyone disturbing my baby.

I had a c section in the end and it was great. Low stress, a lovely (really) experience and easy recovery.

LRHRN · 28/09/2020 20:09

Thank you everyone for your really helpful comments.
I'm already talking myself out of ECV like you say I don't want anyone messing with my baby.
I've watched a video on YouTube and I didn't realise how major it actual is, I honestly thought my midwife would just wiggle her around abit but after watching this and reading up I've got a bad feeling about it.
Fingers crossed she turns herself, if not elective csection it is.

@LRHRN Hi, just an update on my situation. Had my 34 week appointment today and baby has moved head down! So there’s always still time for the same for you! :)

Is baby still transverse?

Queenbee95 · 06/10/2020 16:56

I’ve not had one myself but seen a few women talk about them. Apparently the website “spinning babies“ is good for showing you natural ways to bring baby head down x

LRHRN · 06/10/2020 18:05

@MrsAJKA aww that's amazing. Still transverse here but like you say still time 😊

LRHRN · 06/10/2020 18:07

@MrsAJKA hopefully he will stay head down then. Not long now xxx

@MrsAJKA I've seen the midwife and baby is still transverse with her shoulder stuck 🤦🏼‍♀️ if she hasn't moved in 2 weeks I'll have to have a scan and figure out the next steps but will likely be a csection. I was going back through my scan pictures and she's been In the same position at every scan since 17weeks so she's clearly comfy, it's probably because her legs are ridiculously long.

Hope your baby is still head down 😊
