I’m up with horrendous heartburn and general discomfort at 38 weeks pregnant!!!

I need entertaining, what’s the funniest or silliest thing you’ve done when pregnant?! Thankfully I haven’t had any terrible moments so far but there are many little baby brain blips every day!! Like trying to make stock with a wrapped stocked cube 🙈

Totally forgot a girl in works name mid sentence on Saturday... ive known her for a year and went to say her name as we were speaking and just stood for about 10 seconds staring at her before admitting I couldn’t remember it and asking!

I’ve also poured water in the bin instead of the dog bowl and asked my partner how he knew my aunt... forgetting I introduced them at a family event about 2 years ago 🙈

TitsOutForHarambe · 28/09/2020 05:39

Forgetting pretty much everyone's name except my husband's.

7 years ago, when cars had keys not fobs...
As I was driving along, I had a sudden panic that I had lost my car keys at the supermarket. I had to pull over to check pockets, bag etc. They were, of course, in the ignition.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 28/09/2020 06:00

Let's say I design screwdrivers for a living. I was giving a presentation about my newest screwdriver design and just couldn't remember the word screwdriver

Had to keep going around it until it came to me
New tool
New device
Rotation aid

So weird I could come up with lots of alternatives but not the damn word

Ferrylass · 28/09/2020 06:02

I was out in a cafe with my little girl who was then five weeks old.
An older lady comes across and asks me her name. I told her it was Jess, which is actually the name of my cat...!

LayingLow · 28/09/2020 21:12

These made me laugh so thankyou 🤣

I have a habit of putting things in the wrong place whenever I'm pregnant like I'll make a cup of tea and put the milk in the cupboard instead of the fridge or put the spoon in the bin instead of the teabag. Iv also been on the phone for a while to my mum etc then think ill have a look on fb to tell them about somthing I saw on there and I cant find my phone (because I'm speaking on it)

Mangomumma · 28/09/2020 21:24

A few years ago when DD1 was a newborn I'd used my phone to play white noise to help her sleep whilst we were out for a walk. Halfway home a panicked as I couldn't find my phone! Took a good 5 minutes to remember it was tucked in the pushchair hood playing the white noise!

HoldOnToHope · 28/09/2020 21:35

When DS was a newborn, I changed his nappy and then went to put the wet one in the bin. I couldn't find it anywhere, I was so confused. Then realised I'd put his wet nappy back on him after I'd cleaned him up 🙈

oohmama · 28/09/2020 22:21

Locked my 11 week old in the car
And my phone
Had to hysterically knock on my neighbours door and ring the fire brigade
A massive truck and a smashed window later and he slept through the whole thing 🙈
He's nearly 5 and I still say 'got the car keys' before I will shut all the doors

Superscientist · 28/09/2020 22:42

When I was about 3 months pregnant I had just cycled home in the torrential rain. I managed to lock my house keys in the garage. It would be an hour before my partner got home so I knocked on my neighbours door and asked if I could climb over the fence to see if I could find a way into the house /garage from the back. As I was telling her what had happened I put my hand in my coat pocket and pulled out my house keys!

Catsup · 28/09/2020 23:56

Getting on a bus when DS was little and juggling baby, pram and shopping. Random man kindly offered to help me but in hindsight appeared a bit perplexed when I handed him my child instead of the pram to lift on the bus 😅. In my defence I was feeling a bit frazzled and still coming to grips with the holding baby, balancing bags, and collapsing the pushchair routine that seems to become one fluid motion after a bit.

micc · 29/09/2020 04:57

I classically leave things in places and then cant find them about 100 times a day.. and the other day my OH thought it would be funny to mess with me, I called him and asked him to pop to the shop, he said oh I dont have my wallet.. or my phone so I cant pay I'll come back first. I was like ok cool see you when you come back to get it.. he just started laughing and I kid you not ot took my a solid 5 minutes to realise I was on the phone to him.. so he had his phone 🤦‍♀️

Willowmartha1 · 29/09/2020 05:44

I had to call the ambulance out as my young baby had a cough and was struggling to breath, two paramedics (men) arrived just as I had finished breastfeeding her, I let them in and wondered why one of them was staring at me oddly, when I looked down my top was still up and my boobs were on full show! Mortified doesn't even cover it !!

Pickio · 29/09/2020 06:20

Whilst I was pregnant with DS1 6 years ago I attended a funeral, only once I was in the crematorium did I realise they were talking about a complete stranger! Absolutely mortified I just sat the whole way through the service of a man of never met. Turns out I'd arrived just a week early to the funeral I should have been attending 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Wineandrun · 29/09/2020 14:40

I took my husband a bowl of Cheerios in bed the other morning and presented my four year old with a lovely cup of tea! I completely forgot my postcode in the bank once, I’d lost my card so went in to cancel it and just looked at the bank man like he was speaking Greek when he asked me where I lived 🤦‍♀️

I lost my sunglasses the other day coming back from a Dr's appt. Not in my bag, couldn't see them on the pavement. Turns out I was wearing them. Not pushed up onto my head, but actually looking through them.

Ireallymustgotobed · 30/09/2020 10:08

When DD was about 6 months old and slept in my bed I heard her stir and sleepily picked her up for a breastfeed. Couldn’t find her head and panicked, assuming she had somehow buried it in her sleeping bag. Her dad (now XH) came in while I was trying to uncover her and completely confused took her from me and turned her the right way up. I had been holding her head down.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 30/09/2020 10:18

Frying off some mince for a spag bol and wondering why it was taking so long to turn pink - my brain totally forgot that cooked mince is brown

Lolarosemama · 30/09/2020 11:20

Hi everyone,
these posts caught my eye because I am very interested in the topic of 'Baby Brain' or 'Brain Fog' from a research perspective. This means in reality I am interested in trying to understand what it is and what causes it and why many women report changes in their thinking and memory during pregnancy or after giving birth.

If anybody is interested in sharing their experiences under the mumsnet research area I am advertising for research participants on this topic. Just click on the link below to access the research area and information about this study.

Thanks everyone,

Going to be a total downer here (and congratulations and hope that all goes well over the coming weeks), but I really really hate 'baby brain' as a phrase and an assumption.

So many women are already let go when pregnant, or 'mummy tracked', or find it hard to get jobs when they have small kids, and the idea that as soon as you're pregnant you lose the ability to think is incredibly unhelpful.

Steps off soapbox

niki26 · 21/10/2020 18:18

My second daughter is 6 weeks old now but I still have unbelievable baby brain! I was helping my 4 year old to write a birthday card on Sunday and said 'the next letter is 'e' like at the end of your name'. She looked at me oddly. Then said 'but it's an 'a' at the end of my name?' Her name is Jessica! I was corrected by a four year old!

Later, as I was talking to my sister about my new daughters name I said 'a lot of letters in her name are also in Jessica's....except 'I' and 'B'.....' again - they both pointed out that Jessica does indeed have an 'i' in it!

OverTheRainbow88 · 21/10/2020 18:28

I dropped my eldest at nursery then went shopping. About 45 min into my shopping trip I was like oh shit I’ve not seen .... in a while and had a major panic!!! Until I realised he was at nursery. The sheer panic was the most intense feeling ive ever had

WhySoSensitive · 21/10/2020 18:38

Not so much baby brain but I cried my eyes out because I under cooked a potato. I couldn’t get it on my fork and was mildly hysterical 😂
I see the funny side of some of my emotional outbursts now!
