So although I’m quite early On in my pregnancy myself and my husband have already picked names out - we told our mams who both absolutely hate the boy name we have picked out 😱 they literally just said hate it! Has anyone else had this - I’m so not changing the name as we can’t decide on any others we like at all - I’m hoping they grow to love it but I’m not sure they will 😂

Yep my mum, aunty and stepdad all told us they hated our boys name point blank when we told them early in pregnancy. It’s still his name and he’s nearly due now so they accepted it, but next time I won’t tell ANYONE and I mean anyone names until baby is born. So many rude comments which actually are completely irrelevant as if you’d name your baby to please someone else??? Lol

Millylou3 · 27/09/2020 20:39

@Phiphi123 oh I know like I got the just they just hoped I would change my mind 😂😂 yeah actually glad we have only told both mams will keep it Secret until we find out what baby is 😂 yeah they have a while to get used to it if we do have a boy 💙

We never had a ‘I hate it’ but my arsehole mother in law gave a ‘hmmm you sure’ when he was born.
Also I would have loved to know a name she really hated so I could have chose that instead.

If you love it. You use it.

mumsofboys · 27/09/2020 21:00

So intrigued what the names are lol?!?

This is the reason we haven't said anything

ScottishStardust · 27/09/2020 21:24

I'm laughing so much at @ChrisPrattsFace and wanting to know MIL's most hated name to use that 🤣 absolutely brilliant!

I suspect whatever we settle on my MIL will turn her nose up at...

lionsmum · 27/09/2020 21:36

@ChrisPrattsFace laughing a lot at your post, that would have been too good!🤣

We kept our name choices quiet as they were/are quite different and I knew someone wouldn't approve. The only opinion that matters is that of you and your husband, the baby is your blessing. If anyone shares their opinion on my DS2's name when he arrives they will be getting told where to go! You do you OP👏🏼

VillageGreenTree · 27/09/2020 21:58

Why did they both hate it?
You might need to consider if it is a name that might provoke the same reaction in others, and if so, if it really is the name you want to give to your child.

calimommy · 27/09/2020 22:04

The best advice I could give anyone expecting is to keep the name choice/s to yourself until baby is born. When you are pregnant EVERYONE has an opinion on names whereas once baby arrives and the name is registered, people are much less likely to object or make derogatory comments to your face. They can like it or lump it.

Wolfiefan · 27/09/2020 22:09

I wouldn’t tell anyone the name until a baby arrives. But why do they hate it? Many people seem to try and choose yuuuneeq names and it’s beyond cringe!

Millylou3 · 27/09/2020 22:12

@calimommy absolutely this is us now we will be keeping sshh until baby has arrived - it’s not an out there name we got it from a top 100 baby name list so it’s pretty common It may be a “dated” name which is why they were a bit off with it 😂

OP posts:
calimommy · 27/09/2020 22:15

I have to know the name now haha

MaverickDanger · 27/09/2020 22:16

We’ve got three that we like - the one that my parents think is “interesting” is the one we are likely to go for.

They haven’t out and out said they don’t like it, they just gush about the other two names & keep telling us that we’ll know what he looks like when he’s here.

Millylou3 · 27/09/2020 22:17

😂😂😂 I’m quite happy to say - unless you hate it too 👀 it’s Reggie - I think it’s more towards the “Kray twins” aswell even though that means absolutely nothing 😂 honestly we picked it not even thinking about any links to the name just that we love it 😊

OP posts:
Millylou3 · 27/09/2020 22:21

@MaverickDanger wow 3 I wish we had a few but honestly we struggled so much with a boy name not so much a girl name but yeah I’ve heard a few people say once you see baby you will know so you never know I may look and think that’s not the one 😂

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 27/09/2020 22:32

The Kray twins association wouldn’t occur to younger people. But it’s also more of a shortened version. Not something I would put on a birth certificate IYSWIM

Millylou3 · 27/09/2020 22:37

@Wolfiefan yeah every ones entitled to an opinion interesting to see - but we don’t think it’s bad We saw it and loved it 👶🏻

ChrisPrattsFace · 27/09/2020 22:43

We also debated using all the names in my side of the family because she wanted her family names ‘in honour of her as the mother’ just to piss her off too, but unlike her we aren’t horrible people!
Also we had a boy. Hahahah

calimommy · 27/09/2020 22:44

Will you be using Reggie for short or is that the given name? Most name opposition I see comes from using traditional nick names as the full name rather than, in this case, Reginald on the birth certificate.
Ultimately, it is your child. So do as you wish!

ChrisPrattsFace · 27/09/2020 22:44

Also OP I love the name reggie.
I do associate Ronnie with the krays though. 😂

Aquamarine1029 · 27/09/2020 22:46

Reggie as a given name is awful. Listen to your mothers. Your baby will be a grown man someday who has to deal with that diminutive, weak name.

Millylou3 · 27/09/2020 22:47

@calimommy no will be Reggie on the birth certificate 👶🏻 Yeah that’s it my 1st baby was a boy and also had some comments about the name we picked but once baby was here I literally got “aw he suits it so much” 😂 so I’m living in hope this will happen if baby a boy

OP posts:
Millylou3 · 27/09/2020 22:48

@Aquamarine1029 rude much 🤷🏻‍♀️ 👍🏻

rachelphoebemonica · 27/09/2020 22:54

My MIL who is actually really nice and normal said "oh that's different" when my DH told her our DDs name when she was born!
It's not even a particularly unusual name Hmm

Phiphi123 · 27/09/2020 22:55

@Millylou3 I love Reggie and don’t think it needs to be longer/different on the birth certificate!! Reg is a cute abbreviation too and I think it works from baby through to adult

Shelby30 · 27/09/2020 23:03

This is why no one knew our name. Before baby has arrived they think they can all have their say and think nothing of saying oh no that's horrible etc.

If you like it, stick with it and tell them not to be so rude.

My mum was raging I wouldn't tell her. I had mentioned early on a few we were considering and she said oh no I don't like that etc.
