Bleeding in third trimester - when should I worry???

Hi ladies...

Am bleeding a little bit this morning - not loads, mostly brownish but a little bit of red...

It's really not loads but it hasn't happened before and despite trying not to I am having a panic. Just felt baby kick, should that reassure me???

Am 28 weeks on thurs, had low placenta at 20 week scan and have to have another at 34 weeks.

Am thinking that the advice is likely to be to wait and see if it gets worse or stops?

TIA for anyone's thoughts/reassurance! x

You should call the midwife immediately to rule on placental abruption. But it's probably fine. But CALL ANYWAY.

ToadieG1 · 10/10/2007 10:29

Agree, call midwife now.

chunkypudding · 10/10/2007 10:31

really? there is honestly not much blood at all, would there not be loads if it was placental abruption?

call midwife immediately
most likely its nothing. but they need to confirm that it isnothing.
or if it is something to worry about. they need you to be in a place where they can safely deliver baby and care for her.
stop faffing and phone them.

ToadieG1 · 10/10/2007 10:34

Yes call now. If it is from the placenta it could get worse suddenly and god forbid you weren't at the hospital should that happen. Please call someone right away.

Baffy · 10/10/2007 10:39

most probably nothing (happened to me a lot - 28, 30, 33, 36 weeks!!) but best to get checked out just to be sure

susiemj · 10/10/2007 10:39

Chunky - Sorry you're having this worry. LEt us know how you are. Thinking of you.

chunkypudding · 10/10/2007 10:45

ta for the soothing words susiemj/baffy...

typing with one hand as trying to get through to hospital to speak to midwife as there is no-one avaiable to speak at my midwife's... still sure it'll be fine, may even be stopping, but guess its best to check as you all say.

Spoke to hospital, they're calling me back, may need to go in and get checked, feel like a bit of a nana as I think it's stopping but I do understand that its best to know.

never ever feel daft - like you say, it's always best to know, and far better that they send you away saying all is fine, than you don't go in and there is something wrong.

like I said though, it happened to me a lot, and the hospital were fantastic every time. they're just as happy as you if they can send you away with the all clear

chunkypudding · 10/10/2007 11:19

thanks baffy. Still waiting for call back - have sooo much to do at work and can't concentrate now!

let us know how it goes xx

(and in the meantime try to answer some of the 'unnswered threads' on here - good excuse to keep your mind busy! )

Lulumama · 10/10/2007 11:28

glad you are being checked out

esp. with low lying placenta

now, did you have ,ahem, relations last night? if so, the bleeding might be related to a cervical erosion, which is not sinister in the slightest...

chunkypudding · 10/10/2007 18:01

Just to let you know am back from hospital, been thoroughly checked out and was allowed home as long as dp keeps an eye on me for next few hours.

The bleeding seemed to stop quite quickly, could have something to do with placenta moving but hopefully all fine now anyway.

Lulumama, no 'relations' for me I'm afraid, dp slightly freaked out by the presence of a thord party so that rules that out.

Am knackered now. Cup of tea and duvet on the sofa I think.

Thanks to all those who gave advice, especially those who were gentle with it, as I'm sure everyone knows/remembers it's quite scary being a first-timer x

'third' not 'thord' obviously

Lulumama · 10/10/2007 19:18

Baffy · 11/10/2007 13:24

chunkypudding · 11/10/2007 13:43

thanks lovely ladies. back in work today, have to go to london for big awards thing tonight, would rather go to bed...

Am gonna take things slowly and slip out of the awards early if poss.

Such a shame, have a gorgeous Isabella Oliver dress and am just not in the mood to wear it!

Hopefully have nothing else to worry about, but I promise to call hospital at first sign of any trouble

xx
