Pushchair purchase

Sooo, wondering roughly when people put deposits down/purchased their pushchairs.
I'm currently 18 weeks.
Have 2 boys already, but did suffer an early MC in April. With Christmas coming up and obviously a price of a pushchair just wondering how many weeks you were when you got yours? I think with what happened in April, it's made me worry about getting big items ect, but I know I can't keep worrying.

With my DD I think I ordered it after the 20 week scan

This time I'm pregnant with twins after several miscarriages and ectopics and am now 19 weeks. I want to wait until at least 20 weeks again but maybe more like 24 weeks as that's the cut off for when a hospital will try and save a baby but then my consultant said with twins you should prepare to have them anytime from 26 weeks 🤷‍♀️😬 I'm not even sure of the delivery time at the moment and should probably look that up! So I think it will have to be 20 weeks! Which is next blood week!!!!

I think most companies offer a decent refund policy in the event something awful happens - thats was mamas and papas told me when I asked once

bubblybon20 · 26/09/2020 11:59

Yeah I think it was also 20 weeks with my sons! But seems ages ago 🤦🏻‍♀️
OMG congratulations on twins, how exciting!! 😀
Yes may just wait until my 20 week scan, although i could put a small deposit down and it would come when I'm 22 weeks 😫 just so confusing! X

I had NHS 20wk scan and then few days later had private scan as partner wasn’t allowed to NHS one. We went for a look round mamas and papas straight after private scan but planned just to look not but. We then found a pram we loved and was on sale so we paid the deposit and have just had it delivered. Had it delivered at 28wks and was thinking better to get it delivered closer to time but partner wanted to know we had it incase any issues with delivery/further lockdown restrictions. I’m glad we do have it despite not really having anywhere to store it (currently in dining room) as gives peace of mind knowing got everything we need now.

seeing everyones replies has me thinking again lol, im currently 20 weeks pregnant have my scan in two days. i have seen some pushchairs i like but wasnt looking to purchase until i was like 33 weeks. maybe i should buy earlier?? not sure about anything yet as its my first pregnancy

theresaplaceforus · 26/09/2020 16:12

Hi - I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant.
I purchased my pram at 26 weeks and it arrived about 2 weeks ago - I got a bugaboo Fox 2 - and at the time I knew there was a very long wait, due to Covid, I think it’s good to buy one around that time or even a little earlier because you need to have a go at folding it and lifting to see how you get on with it which is a lot harder when you have a Big bump.

Viletta · 26/09/2020 16:14

I got all big items after 30weeks so they don't lie around the house taking up space. Also when I announced my pregnancy at work at 20w I got lots of handed down things which was very lovely and helpful. Also some family members asked us what we needed only at the very end of pregnancy when we practically had everything

bubblybon20 · 26/09/2020 18:31

Thankyou all so much for your replies! Going to put a deposit down on Wednesday; then pay the balance in 4 weeks! 😀 will be roughly 22 weeks!

I bought mine at 38 weeks and had next day delivery! You can get most things delivered really quickly now so didn't see the point of having it sitting around taking up space.

mobear · 26/09/2020 20:03

I ordered mine at 30 weeks, mainly because I didn’t want to have to store it too early. It arrived about a month later.

Charlotte2020 · 26/09/2020 20:20

I plan on looking at cribs and prams after my 20 week scan as JL and mamas & papas are near the hospital. Just to get an idea of what I like- I'm worried we'll have another full lockdown and I don't want to spend £100s without trying stuff out! Wishfully thinking I'll be able to get lots in xmas sales (baby due in March)!

hellymum21 · 26/09/2020 20:26

I've just ordered mine today at 16 weeks as we found out sex today and I am starting to get worried about lockdowns so just wanted peace of mind that it's on order! Won't get it til feb though ☺️

bubblybon20 · 26/09/2020 21:17

@Charlotte2020 @hellymum21 I'm due end feb! And also worried about going into lockdown, and with the worry of Christmas coming! I also know what I'm having, but will wait until I've had my 20 weeks incase I was told wrong lol 🤣🤣x

The woman in the shop said they were starting to see delays now so I just decided to go for it. We went grey anyway so won't matter if it turns out to be a boy 🤣🤣(but I guess he won't look good in all the pink clothes 😂😂)

BertieBotts · 27/09/2020 08:42

I work in a pushchair shop and most people coming in now to look at prams are due Dec/Jan/Feb, so they are about 4-7 months pregnant.

Bear in mind if you're buying a premium model new the shops won't keep every colour and frame in stock all the time and tend to order them direct from the manufacturer so you need to allow 6-8 weeks for delivery - with COVID, Brexit etc I'd maybe allow 12 just in case, so aim to have made the decision and the final order by 6 months pregnant.

Or if you're flexible about colours and pick a smaller model (or just ask specifically for the choice of models they have in stock) you may be able to walk away with it the same day, in which case you can leave it a bit later. I would recommend buying from a brick and mortar shop (or online version of) either way, just because you tend to get a guarantee and it's easier to walk in for advice/repairs/etc if you have any problems or questions, which they tend to offer as part of their customer service, rather than waiting around for couriers to collect and then being without a buggy for ages which you get from the purely online retailers.

Nobody in a shop will find it weird if you're doing research before you have a visible bump :) I remember feeling really self conscious about this when I was pregnant, but it doesn't matter at all!

orangejuicer · 27/09/2020 08:47

We didn't get ours til I was 6-7months. DP and I did lots of research and went to see our preferred option in the shop. It was great, ticked all the boxes but even then he wanted to go home and think about it. I put my swollen feet down and we left with the pram. We had saved for it so could pay out right. Also went for a travel system which was invaluable.

Turtleturtle81 · 27/09/2020 09:54

I’m 28 weeks. I bought my travel system around 24 weeks. No problem with delays or anything. I bought it in store at John Lewis and it was delivered to my house 4 days later.

MaverickDanger · 27/09/2020 11:14

Ordered at 25 weeks - some of the brands had about a 12 week lead in time.

Mine had a 4 week lead in time, so is just about ready to pick up now.

eausolovely · 28/09/2020 01:43

Mine had a 17 week lead time as it was during the first wave of the pandemic and so my mum bought it for us very early on as it was a travel system and she wanted to make sure we had the car seat at least weeks in advance. Ours was a Nuna one from Mamas and Papas and they advertised the wait time so maybe check out the wait on the one you are looking at and then deciding based on that?
