Hi,

I've just been diagnosed. I was getting high readings including fasting ones until I had to stop testing. I was provided/ prescribed more testing strips and didn't realise they werent compatible with my machine until I tried using them. Hopefully that's now sorted, I've got to go and collect the replacement ones. However I've not tested for nearly 2 days and my last test was a 10.

The dietitian prescribed metformin on Wednesday but my GP swears nothings come through so I have to wait over the weekend.

Should I stress about this or will it be fine? Does it matter if it takes a few more days to get the metformin?

I'd chase if I were you. How many weeks are you?

Have you been on the Gestational Diabetes UK site and facebook group? It's really helpful, especially with what to eat.

Thanks I've applied to join the Facebook group. 30 weeks.
I've tried chasing and still going round in circles. Not sure what I can do over the weekend.

I wouldn't worry about not having the metformin over the weekend. Try to stick to the diet as much as possible and go for walks after each meal. A 30 minute walk after a meal was the best way I found for keeping readings down.

Don't panic, you will likely be on a low dose to begin with. Do what you can to regulate your diet in the meantime.

You can order testing strips from amazon depending on what tester you have. Just in case you're concerned.

I've just been diagnosed too at 34 weeks. My sugars have lowered really quickly as I've been eating little and often rather than big meals. So for example, I've eaten my weetabix in two parts in the morning, one at 7am and one at 9.30am. It's really made a difference!

Thanks I'll give that a go
