Gestational diabetes test

Hello,
Had a GTT test at 28 weeks due to raised BMI and results were normal. However, at my past 2 midwife appointments, now 34 weeks I've had ++ glucose in my urine. I've had 2 hospital appointments between those appointments and whilst there my urine tests have been normal. They're sending me for another GTT test as a result but it's a few days after my wedding so I'm now scared of eating cake etc. As I've heard my glucose levels will show from the past few weeks😂 has anyone experienced glucose in urine weeks after negative GTT test?
THanks in advance :)

Don't know if it's also worth mentioning but I've had growth scans and fluid is normal and baby is on the 10th centile. Aware that bigger baby and increased fluid can be a sign of gestational diabetes 🙂

Hi Op, gestational diabetes usually causes big babies but can also cause them to be small. I didn't get diagnosed until I was 34 weeks when I started to measure big and had glucose in my urine.

If you are having another GTT rather than a HB1AC blood test then don't worry about eating your wedding cake as it only measures how your body responds directly after exposure to sugar. Is there anyway they could bring you GTT forward so that you don't have to worry about it?

I hope you have a lovely wedding : )

I've just been diagnosed at my first GTT. Babies can be larger or smaller apparently for different reasons relating to disbetes. My understanding is the fasting should reset you to whatever is currently normal for you. So cake at the wedding won't affect it. I was only just over on the GTT but since monitoring my blood sugar it's gone mad. Apparently it can be hormonal not what you're eating, diet isn't solving it for me unfortunately it's just the way my placenta is working.

My trust aren't event doing proper GTT at any point - had the HB1AC blood test at like 16 weeks (as didn't do booking bloods either) and nothing since though I've been asking for it a lot as I have a BMI of 31 and baby is measuring big. Will have another HB1AC at 28 weeks (I'm 27 now) and that's it. Really fed up of Buckinghamshire :( I hope you can still enjoy cake at your wedding - congratulations!!

If it's a standard GTT what you've eaten previously won't impact it at all.

@SarahFrances89 I had a BMI of over 40. A big baby and no GD. As a warning though when DS was born big they then checked his glucose levels after birth which was not pleasant to watch. I actually growled at the midwife who tried to do an extra test.
