False labour?

Hello - sorry this is long but has anyone else had this?!

I'm 36 wks and last night I woke up around 1am with the worst stomach cramps. I thought it would go away but it was pretty constant, not stopping and starting like contractions but achey non stop but now and then getting worse then better, like a contraction would.

I went to the loo a few times, felt really heavy, achey to walk and pulling in my lower tummy. I couldn't work out if it was just wind or actual labour - but started using my contractions app to keep track of the worst bits.

the pains carried on for four hours, the app told me to get ready to go to hospital then eventually to actually leave for hospital. Somehow I just didn't believe it was labour, mostly because I'm 36 weeks but obviously anything's possible. There was just no other sign so I just went back to bed - there was some pain and I didn't sleep straight away with the discomfort and then did drift off eventually.

Woken up now - the pains have mostly gone, getting little waves now and then and feel a bit weird and sore. Sort of feel like I need the bathroom.

What was that?! This is my second pregnancy and I never had anything like that, maybe a bit of Braxton hicks but last night I thought it could be labour. It just wouldn't stop.

Anyone had that before?

Thank you

Hi OP!

Joining you on this because I'm experiencing the same thing right now too, except I'm 38 weeks today and it's my 3rd. First two were induced so don't have experience of going into natural labour.

Had cramps and contractions on and off for weeks, and I've lost my mucus plug. Woke up at 3am with period pains coming every 10 mins or so, they weren't awful pain but enough to keep me awake. Got up at 5am, the pains got stronger and closer together then I started getting proper contractions at about 5.30am. These were every 3-4 mins and enough to make me squirm. At 7am I thought I'll have a shower and get sorted in case it's the real deal, but now it's all stopped!!

Interested to see if anyone else has experienced this and had it turn into labour? I'm so ready for this baby now!!

@momtot hi I hope baby comes soon for you!

I'm googling and there are a few things that can cause false pains including dehydration apparently.

I just can believe how real it felt!

Yes this happened to me at about 38 weeks, i had been having mild contractions on and off since 36+6.
Mine lasted from 12am to 5am rougly just under an hour apart, mild but noticeable.

I thought the baby would come early as my first was born at 37+4 but she came on her due date, it's basically slow labour. My waters broke and the labour itself was very quick so hoping the same for you

OP, it felt so real for me too! I even woke DH up telling him the real contractions had started, oops! I'm still getting some pains here and there but they stop whenever I sit down or stop moving, so I'm thinking they can't be proper ones.

Anyone else had any experience of this happening? Would love to hear people's stories!

How are you getting on OP?

Anyone else experienced similar?

Hi @Momtot - so nothing more from me so far, maybe the odd small little crampy feeling here and there but nothing like the other night!

Yours did sound like proper labour but again, reading up on this and it's quite common for your body to start practising!

I rang the midwife and one thing she did say that was re-assuring was that none of this work / pain is wasted, it's your body softening up and getting ready - so thats good?!

How's it all going for you?
