Has anyone ever not had the flu and hooping cough vaccine and been fine?

@jomaIone I've looked and wanted others helpful opinions so I don't mind asking "ransoms" on this page that's why it's here so mums can ask questions not get swore at with silly sarcastic responses that just don't need to be said.

The swearing is an indication of how serious this is. Your baby could get seriously ill if they don't get it.

There will be a million questions over the next few years and ransoms on the internet aren't doctors. Get proper advice if you need it.

@MrsTerryPratchett again another answer that isn't needed thanks👏🏼👋🏼

@SnowFan
Thanks for the information there and taking the time to write all that for us. ❤️

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/09/2020 19:51

It was meant helpfully but whatever.

Oneandabean · 24/09/2020 20:38

My midwife told me a few years there was a whooping cough outbreak and unfortunately young babies died from it, so now they routinely offer pregnant mothers the vaccine so that the baby has some immunity to it while first born. It’s very much worth it to protect your baby, yes they may be fine if you don’t have it, but they also may not and that doesn’t bear thinking about

124lockstock · 24/09/2020 20:44

I haven’t had either and I’m 36 weeks pregnant. It’s not necessary imo, and although stated that the whooping cough vaccine passes antibodies on to baby there is little evidence of this hence why it’s also given at 8 week vaccine schedule. Both also contain aluminium levels that aren’t believed to be safe for a growing foetus you can research this for yourself. The vaccine friendly plan is an amazing book with so much information.

SnowFan · 24/09/2020 21:25

Just thought I should add a little disclaimer here: I'm obviously not a medical professional, just someone giving an opinion, who happens to know a lot about whooping cough! Anyone who has serious concerns about their own specific risk from any vaccine should, of course, discuss them with their midwife or GP :)

Studies please?

Just while this thread is here, doesn anyone know if there is time frame recommended for flu jab in pregnancy, ie not before or after however many weeks, or is it just any time/asap?

Absolute nonsense. Every single word.

I spoke to my midwife yesterday as my GP can’t book me in until early November and I’m due December . She said there is no timescale to get it, but the sooner the better.

I thought aluminium wasn’t used the U.K. vaccines?
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/09/2020 08:51

The vaccine friendly plan is an amazing book with so much information I can summarise it without even reading it-bs information relating to aluminium and false links to autism that concludes with don’t get your child vaccinated instead have faith that every other person has had theirs and feel no social responsibility Wink

PopsicleHustler · 25/09/2020 12:58

I've had both. But I stopped taking the flu jab for personal reasons. The whooping cough vaccination am sure I am due to have sometime soon. It is to protect the baby

124lockstock · 25/09/2020 14:13

@OnlyFoolsnMothers No it isn’t an anti-vaxx book. It outlines various studies and scientific data on all vaccines. There are many other books more scientific but I only suggested if the OP was interested in understanding a little that book is a great place to start. Why people are so blind to this I will never know. And no I’m not an uneducated crazy anti-vaxx conspiracy theorist 🙄 I have a degree in biochemistry and I’ve read enough studies and literature to bore you all for decades.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/09/2020 14:29

Fab. Please link to the studies saying that whooping cough vaccine given to pregnant women doesn't confer any immunity to babies.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/09/2020 14:37

i have a degree in biochemistry that’s quite scary when you pair it with you haven’t opted for the whooping cough vaccine- do you think the number of those infected post vaccine fell by chance?

124lockstock · 25/09/2020 15:28

I don’t have studies pinned to my bedroom wall ready to throw at people. But I did read a study that stated no more than a 3% antibody transmission rate. Would you care to show me a study that states otherwise? Because this information is never readily available. Have you ever questioned why that it is? Probably not.

As I said I’m not an anti-vaxxer my baby will be having the whooping cough vaccine at 8 weeks but it isn’t necessary during pregnancy imo as I stated in my comment! I will also never have the flu vaccine.

Here’s just some simple information I was able to find quickly:
www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/excipient-table-2.pdf

eb774ca2-34bc-4141-a56e-0ff6e2ff2f06.filesusr.com/ugd/7674c0_1776c6559dd04bb6b9c4341e88183256.docx?dn=Vaccines%20in%20pregnancy.docx

Make of it what you like. My reply was the OP not so I could be hounded down to provide you with evidence of my beliefs.

countbackfromten · 25/09/2020 19:34

Well @124lockstock you exposed yourself with your last link didn’t you.

Inkpaperstars · 25/09/2020 19:52

Thanks @Turtleturtle81!

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/09/2020 20:49

That first link is US vaccines, how is that relevant?

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/09/2020 20:52

vk.ovg.ox.ac.uk/vk/vaccine-ingredients

UK aluminum link.

124lockstock · 25/09/2020 21:24

Vaccines are manufactured in the US and distributed worldwide including the U.K. The added aluminium has to be present in some vaccines for them to produce an immune response for them to work! Without it the vaccines wouldn’t work.

124lockstock · 25/09/2020 21:26

@countbackfromten I exposed myself how exactly?
