Worrying early scan

I went for a private scan a week ago today when I should have been 7 weeks (I knew exactly when my last period started, and roughly when I ovulated). If I don't miscarry before next Wednesday they advised us to go for another scan to confirm viability. I know the chances aren't great, but has anyone been in a similar situation and had a successful pregnancy? For some reason I feel sure that I won't miscarry before the scan, but when we go for another scan they'll confirm the pregnancy isn't viable. My DH thinks we shouldn't give up hope just yet.

Sorry, didn't mention that I measured at 6 weeks 2 days and there wasn't a heartbeat which is why I'm worried.

Hi

I dont think that is anything to worry about at the moment.

Measurements can vary +/- 7 days and not seeing a heartbeat at 6+2 doesnt mean it isnt viable.

With my son, he was measuring 6 days behind at 6+5 and i then had a scan at 8+4 and he was measuring 3 days ahead.

Good luck x

Thanks Ned, that's really reassuring. The sonographer said it's usual to see a heartbeat at 6+2 but not seeing one didn't mean the pregnancy isn't viable. I lost my job two days before the scan so all in all it's been a pretty shitty few weeks - probably why I'm so worried.

Talk about being stressed. I feel for you.

Alot of places wont scan you before 7 weeks because of this reason.

I know its hard (ive had multiple losses) so i know it is but try to only worry once there is something to worry about and currently there isnt.

wishes i listen to my own advice

To see at heartbeat at 6+2 is dependent on so many factors, the skill of the sonograoher, the position of everything, the direction of the wind... Plus you could easily be 5 days out on your ovulation date - my cycles are usually 31-33 days, but the cycle I got my BFP I ovulated really early and would have had a 26 day cycle. If I'd based it on my usual cycle I'd have been a week out! It's really hard not to worry but it is entirely probable it's an ovulation timing issue, not a growth issue. Good luck x

You've both really cheered me up. I've been ok for the last week but was really struggling with the thought of not knowing for another week but I'll follow your advice @Ned2021 and try to stop worrying. Onwards and upwards!

Thanks Smile

There are no guarantees but my current pregnancy, I went to an early scan at 8 weeks and was told just about 5 weeks. At that gestation everything is so small it's easy to be wrong. My next scan brought the gestation forward again by 1.5 weeks. Now I'm over 22 weeks.
But I have also had a pregnancy that dated 2 weeks early and ended in a MMC 😔
Not sure if that helps but try not to worry x

BeansOnToastWithCheese · 22/09/2020 14:11

Thanks @Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily. A MMC is my fear, I'm fairly sure of my dates but the sonographer said everything else looked good so I've just got to wait and see. I know my mum had really small babies and when she had her first scan with me (her PFB) they couldn't pick up a heartbeat (not sure how far gone she was though) so part of me is hoping it's just genetic and everything is well at the next scan.

But if it's not I'll move on. Miscarriage is so common (I didn't realise quite how common until recently) and most women who experience a loss go on to carry and deliver a healthy baby so there's no reason I wouldn't be one of them. But the waiting is so hard!

And I'm really sorry to hear about your MMC. It must have been awful. I'm really pleased to hear you're over 22 weeks with your current pregnancy, congratulations!

I had an early scan at what should have been nearly 6.5 weeks due to a bleed, and measured 5+6. So basically a whole week behind, I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant, but my dates never moved or caught up so don't worry if you have another scan and you haven't caught up to the dates you originally thought! Good luck xxx

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 22/09/2020 15:02

@BeansOnToastWithCheese this is actually my second successful pregnancy since. It was literally 1in4, DS, MMC,DS,Current pregnancy.
🤞 Your dates are just a little off or the scan was slightly off, a mm makes a massive difference in an early can and is easily missed. Good Luck x

I had a scan when I should’ve been 8 weeks. Measured at just over 6 (can’t remember exactly- it was 4 years ago). I was sure of my dates so knew it was ‘wrong’. It was an NHS scan, and they said they had to use those dates going forwards. Later in pregnancy I had a scan to check the placenta and they said that DS was measuring really big for gestation, on course to be a 10lb delivery, etc. He ended up being 2 weeks ‘early’ and 8lb8. I am convinced that the first measurement was wrong, my dates were right, and he was in fact born around his correct due date.
