Comfy sleep positions 😓

Anyone have any advice regarding comfy sleep positions? I’m 34 weeks and completely paranoid about sleeping in any other position than on my left side šŸ™ˆ I have a big pregnancy pillow and sleep with a pillow between my knees too.

At the moment I sleep for around 1-1.5 hours then wake up with my left hip/shoulder etc all in cramp and have got to sit up for a couple of hours to let it ease off before I can then go back down for another 1-1.5 hour sleep.

Has anyone found anything that works well for them? 😊

I alternate sides. I go to sleep on my left, which will usually be your longest sleep but it's not mine. Get up for a wee, turn my pillow over and go to sleep on my right, then same again later. Having read lots, this is fine. Lying on your back Is the biggest issue. Personally, I was always a front sleeper so the aching (even with a pillow) on my side, hips and back is 😩

You can sleep on either side, left is better but right is fine, just avoid your back

@Mycrazylife85 @Oneandabean Thanks guys. Common sense tells me just to alternate sides but reading that one study about sleeping on your right being dangerous has made me properly paranoid šŸ™„ completely irrational, I know, it’s just the one thing I can’t forget about šŸ™ˆšŸ˜‚

Kick your husband out of bed, it’s the only way Grin

@Phiphi123 šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ He’s barely clinging on šŸ˜‚

I alternate sides too. I’m 32 weeks pregnant and wake up every 1-2 hours to pee, drink water and switch sides šŸ˜” It’s horrible and I can’t wait to get this baby out .... to deal with sleep deprivation mind you but at least I’ll be comfortable 🤣

Can you sleep on your back if you are sat up at a bit of an angle?

Quercusrobur · 21/09/2020 22:20

I had an awful night’s sleep last night (37 weeks) with very sore hips, waking up so regularly I actually felt like I didn’t sleep at all. Has anyone tried sleeping sitting up? My mum suggested it this morning and in my desperation I might pad the bed out with pillows and give it a go!

RestorationInsanity · 21/09/2020 22:30

30 weeks here, never been a side sleeper so have found it really hard and constantly wake up with a dead arm or the feeling of the bump pulling, even though I've tucked my pillow under etc. My mum has also suggested sitting up but I'm trying to hold out a bit longer as I've still got a minimum of 7 weeks to go probably, which seems ages!

RWK29 · 22/09/2020 07:22

@Quercusrobur That’s what I’m doing every night in between my little sleeps but I’ve never managed to actually get to sleep sitting up yet. I just end up sitting there for a couple of hours before lying back down for an hour or so.

I slept on my left from second semester. I also had SPD. Not going to lie, it wasn't fun! Do what you can safely OP. I found our sofa was more comfy than the bed actually. Have you investigated?

danielasummer · 22/09/2020 08:22

@RWK29 I'm in the same position as you. I'm currently 29 weeks but have had this issue since the second trimester (usually a back sleeper) it's impacting my sleep so much that I feel like a zombie during the day!

MrsRogerLima · 22/09/2020 08:30

Get yourself loads of pillows and pile them up like a wall, lay on your left side and lean back into the pillow wall so that you are at a slight angle. A found a pillow under bump and one between my knees helps with comfort.

This way you aren't completely on your back and it take the pressure off laying completely on your side.

It was the only way I could sleep when heavily pregnant. That and kneeling on the floor leaning on the birthing ball šŸ˜‚

MrsRogerLima · 22/09/2020 08:32

Oh and it helps if husband is willing to act as a balast for said pillow wall šŸ˜‚

orangejuicer · 23/09/2020 18:43

Obviously I meant trimester not semester! Uni on the brain!

I have an enormous pillow fort. I sleep with a pregnancy pillow and 4 normal pillows Blush

One pillow lies vertically between the two sides of my pregnancy pillow to support my hip, then one pillow under my head, one behind my back and one between my legs. It's like a lovely nest.

BG1234 · 23/09/2020 19:10

I’m a back or tummy sleeper normally. I can sleep on my side for a bit but am finding it hard with back pains. I have tried both sleeping with my back wedged up so I’m not flat.

I have also got creative with my c shaped pregnancy pillow and wrapped it around like a doughnut and slept face down with my belly in the hole! Won’t work as my belly gets bigger though Grin

Mc3209 · 23/09/2020 19:16

I sleep on top of an extra duvet with pregnancy pillow (banana shaped type) plus pillow between the knees plus a wedge pillow to support the bump. Turning side to side is a mission and I still get sore hips. Tried sleeping sitting up, ok-ish for the hips but woke up with a pain in the neck for the following few days.
I've tried different pillow configurations too, ie making a "doughnut" with my pregnancy pillow for the hip to go into, but can't get comfortable 😩
