Flu jab while pregnant. Yay or nay?

Been invited for one. Not sure whether to go for it. I wouldn't usually.

Yes were recommended to get it xx

If you can, get the flu jab and whooping cough on different days, like a week apart (they prob won't let you) as I didnt half feel like shit after mine last year. 100% get them both though either way, so important

I know someone who caught the flu at 37 weeks pregnant and sadly their baby died from it. I'm taking every vaccine offered!

Charlotte2020 · 17/09/2020 22:53

I'm having the whooping cough but skipping flu jab as I had it last year and I took a week off as I felt so rotten. I wfh so my chances of catching it are fairly slim and apart from vaccine aftermath I've never had it.
Each to their own though x

Always when pregnant. The high temp of the flu in mum can be fatal for baby. Didn't want to put my babies at risk

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 17/09/2020 23:25

I had mine last week. Last thing I want to be catching, particularly in the middle of a pandemic, is flu! It’s standard to offer it to pregnant women, not just because of Covid.

Frankly, you’re quite lucky to be offered it. My GP is having to carefully prioritise who gets it, in case there is a shortage. I usually get one due to my asthma, but this year I would have been bumped down the list as my asthma is quite mild. However I got it because I was pregnant.

I’ve got my toddler his flu vaccine too and DH is off to Boots tomorrow to get his one privately.

I didn’t get any side effects from the flu jab except a tiny bit of soreness. The Whooping Cough vaccine knocked me sideways the next day though and arm was sore for a few days.

peachypetite · 18/09/2020 06:19

I was told the flu jab is to protect me, whooping cough for the baby.

aToadOnTheWhole · 18/09/2020 06:20

Yes. And my 3yo will have the nasal vaccine and my DH will be sent to Boots to have it. Dead arm for the night is better than the alternative.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 18/09/2020 06:46

Yes yes yes

BikeTyson · 18/09/2020 06:48

Yes. Definitely. It’s been recommended for pregnant women for a few years now, not just a COVID thing.

Disappointedkoala · 18/09/2020 07:07

I had flu in my early 20s and it was the worst I've ever felt, I wouldn't want to go through that while pregnant or with a new baby.

I pay for it every year and it's worth the sore arm!

Sanitisethat · 18/09/2020 07:08

I wouldn’t usually either, because I never get flu and I’m not high risk for it being serious if I do. But I’m going to this year - for the added protection it will give my baby, and for the possible benefit of reducing strain on the NHS by minimising my chances of getting another illness which could require hospitalisation.

orangejuicer · 18/09/2020 07:10

Of course yes.

BubbleBoy12 · 18/09/2020 07:11

I did, had a bit of a dull arm ache for the day but was SO worth it. I didn't get flu.

Yesterdayforgotten · 18/09/2020 07:11

Yes without question!

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/09/2020 07:19

I didn’t with my first, as I really don’t think anyone mentioned it to me, as if they had I would have done is ASAP.

I did with me second as they did it straight after my 20 week scan along with the whooping cough.

theresaplaceforus · 18/09/2020 07:26

Yes x

Turtleturtle81 · 18/09/2020 07:39

Absolutely yes. I’ve had flu (proper flu, not a cold that people just call the flu) and I was off work for two weeks and it took me about a month to fully get over it. I spent most of that time unable to get out of bed and crying due to the pain. The thought of getting that whilst pregnant, or my baby getting it, is terrifying.
