Taking maternity notes to Centre Parcs ?

I’m leaving for Centre Parcs tomorrow for the week . I’ll be 32 weeks pregnant on Monday. Low risk pregnancy. The Centre Parcs I’m going to is only a 1.5 hour drive away from my house and hospital. I HATE packing extra stuff . Plus my maternity notes are looking a bit beaten up at the moment ( my toddler got a hold of them ).

Would you bring your notes along with you ?

Yes, definitely take them. If there is an emergency and you are rushed into hospital, the medical staff will have all the information they need to safely treat you.

@ChanklyBore 😂😂!! I feel so stupid now that mostly everyone has said to bring them as I thought the same as you . But it’s probably the smart thing to do .

@OverTheRainbow88 that’s horrible !!! 😔

Yes, you can just leave them in the car or the bottom of your case but I wouldn't risk not having them nearby

TakeMeToYourLiar · 17/09/2020 20:37

Yes, mine live in my glove box. I'm rarely very far from my car!

MichelleOR84 · 17/09/2020 20:40

@pandafunfactory nope , never mentioned to me this pregnancy. Maybe my last one but I can’t remember. Or maybe it was mentioned and baby brain kicked in . Take it easy on me 😝

It’s common sense if I was taking a proper trip ( which I did with my last pregnancy and took my notes ) but to be fair I commute an hour and a half to work everyday anyway and have never brought my notes with me .

Genuine question - I’m sure that they are very specific instances in which they might be useful to have, but what is the actual risk? I mean you aren’t going to keep them in your handbag if you are at work on a normal day, nor I imagine are you going to pack them in your swimming things when leaving the lodge at centre parcs. Yet I’m assuming if you are suddenly rushed into hospital, you would go straight from work or from the pool or wherever and not go back for the notes?

What is the risk to not having them instantly available? What information do they contain that would change the first few hours of treatment, or does it just create an admin headache for some poor soul at the hospital? Are they in fact more important to carry in the first six months where pregnancy isn’t obvious, so a paramedic might give inappropriate first aid if you were alone and unconscious and all your emergency contacts unreachable?

I’d like to know what the actual risk is.

@OverTheRainbow88

One time I went into labour and had no idea where they were but it didn’t matter, someone must have found them at some point I imagine. I was busy!

I also forgot to take them to hospital when in labour and because of my skin colour and name I pretty much got accused of not being a british citizen and here to give birth for free... about 5 times during my labour.!

I hope you found the energy and time to complain. This is such a shit way to treat someone! Sorry you had to go through that.

Yes take them, I was at a centre parcs 2 hours from home whilst pregnant, I think I was around 28 weeks and woke up early morning in a lot of pain having what felt like contractions that got worse after a few hours I ended up having to be taken into the closest hospital as they thought I had gone into early labour and was glad to have had my notes with me.

MichelleOR84 · 17/09/2020 20:53

@ChanklyBore now I just feel so stupid even asking .

I’m staying so close to home that I didn’t think it was necessary. I hate carrying extra stuff, it’s quite personal and I stress a lot about losing or ruining them . I never took them to work with me and my commute is the same . Although I don’t have a digital copy , I know my GP/hospital does ( I think as I see them input my info and my file is brought up ). I was leaning towards bringing them anyway but my husband thought I was crazy . I started to question myself so I asked the question . I’m also originally from rural Canada where my closest hospital was a distance away so an hour and a half staycation didn’t feel like a big deal to me .

But I can see now how important it is to have them at all times . That’s my genuine answer😔

Seems you’re getting a bit of a battering here OP, but it’s not a stupid question to ask. I also don’t lug mine to the park or supermarket and I can imagine my toddler having a whale of a time if he got his hands on them!

My only concern would be if you experienced reduced movements and wanted to get checked, that far away from home.

I’m sure you’ll get back nice and refreshed!

MichelleOR84 · 17/09/2020 21:10

@UserFriendly14 thank you 😊

I never take mine with me, they’re stored down the side of the sofa.
I don’t live far from the hospital and I could pop in and grab them or send someone else if it was a real emergency.

sarahc336 · 17/09/2020 21:25

Yes you need to take them!!! Smile

jomaIone · 17/09/2020 21:40

I don't understand what is on those notes that you need? Like if you and reduced movements, what do they contain that you can't explain to someone! Especially with a normal low risk pregnancy. I was pregnant in 2017-18 and didn't have any notes, all on an app

I’ve got 2 children and now on my 3rd, I’ve never taken my notes anywhere with me bar appointments. I worked up to 38 weeks with a 90 min commute by train, I’d never think to take them anywhere unless I was a vv long drive from home or abroad. Mine have always lived in a drawer and only come out for appointments. Take them if it makes you feel better.

MariaDingbat · 17/09/2020 22:29

I'm 28 weeks and was only told to bring my notes to medical appointments. I'm going away for three days this weekend to a different country and would never have thought to bring my notes with me but I will now. Thanks for asking the question @MichelleOR84!

New2020 · 17/09/2020 22:30

FTM and nobody has mentioned to me that I should be carrying my notes everywhere with me! From which week?
