Elective C Section Request Experiences

Afternoon All,

I was hoping someone may be able to share their experiences with me. I had an EMCS with my first birth and wish for an ELCS for this one.

I discussed this with the midwife at booking in and was given an appointment for today (24 weeks) with a consultant to discuss it. It was a midwife that called me and I gave my reasons for wanting an ELCS. She said that she wasn't going to try to convince me otherwise and they only want what is best for me. She then said that I would still have to discuss it with the Dr at about 34 weeks and get given a date then.

I was just wondering if this was normal and not a no and I need to expect to have to convince the Dr in another 10 weeks time? I was hoping for the reassurance of a definitive yes today but it feels a bit open ended.

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

You are entitled to make an informed choice, and having had a section previously, that in itself is an indication for the request. The appointment is likely to be just a formality

That's reassuring @Anaesthetist83 thank you.

I had an elective with DD, when I spoke to midwife yesterday (13weeks) she said we need to see how this pregnancy pans out but she booked me an appointment at 36 weeks to decide if I want a Vbac or of section is best so it sounds about normal to me Smile

I had to speak to the consultant, I just thought it was normal procedure. I suppose they have to go over the medical side of things/risks? not sure. He was fine about it though.
I had a breech baby which they they wanted to turn, but I said no.

Great thank you all. Think I was just hopeful of a firm yes so I could relax a bit more about the birth! Hoping the 10 weeks will fly by!

Hi, I was given a firm yes quite early on but still had to see consultant at 34 weeks to actually book in date for the c section. No convincing needed. I think that is standard procedure where I live so hopefully will be same for you. ELCS was a positive experience compared to the EMCS I had had with my first.

This is my first baby who will be delivered by elective csection, midwife has been great and said the consultant will need to sign off at 34 weeks and then I’ll be issued a date but they don’t start anything before then

If you have had an EMCS then you would normally have an ELCS anyway. If for example you had issues or your last CS was less than 18 months ago.
