Hiii, so I know they say baby comes when baby is ready but what are the chances that I can encourage my consultant to induce me? And how can I sway them too?
Baby is measuring big and my anxiety is sky high just due to maybe tearing or something going wrong and needing a section😩

How far are you?

ChlOeWh · 15/09/2020 20:53

@SleepingStandingUp i will be 35 weeks on Thursday, my midwife said if the consultant agrees she's more than happy to do a sweep from 38 weeks which I don't mind ☺️ I'm not asking to be induced now as it is too early but from when they can do it? If this makes sense 🙈

What gestation are you?

How big is baby measuring? Do you know the centiles for the different measurements - estimated head circumference, abdominal circumference and overall weight?

Do you have any risk factors or is it an otherwise uncomplicated pregnancy?

Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate. But even if you do have a big baby it doesn't necessarily mean a higher risk of complications. In fact, induction is more likely to lead to complications.

I just gave birth to a baby weighing 4.1kg (9lb1) and there were no complications at all Smile I did have a second degree tear but that's as much to do with your physiology (size and flexibility of your perineum) and how the pushing stage of your labour goes.

I am reluctantly sharing a link to this website which I dislike because it refers to "birthing people" and not women or mothers Angry but the content of this page is otherwise good and should be helpful

How big is baby measuring? I was induced as baby measured small second time and I needed stitches and ended up in surgery after,

1st baby measured small came on time, ended up needing forceps in theatre with a spinal.

1st was 6lb, 2nd was under 6lb.

Big baby doesn’t mean needing stitches, or needing a section etc.... it can happen at any time with any sized baby!

A sweep at 38 weeks would also only work if your body was actually ready for labour, with my 2nd her head was in my pelvis from 28 weeks , so low that it couldn’t be measured in growth scans. So low that I felt like I had a ball between my legs.

I had a sweep at 37 weeks and that worked, but she was small and her growth had stopped. And it was ready for induction.

I had an induction with my first, really wouldn’t recommend it unless you have to. I was stuck on my back hooked up to monitors and ended up with a second degree tear.
Bump measurements are often not accurate and big baby does not mean complications. In fact induction can cause more complications
