Fainting after injection..

Hi,
I had my injection yesterday which was fine and over quite quickly. I was sitting for a minute or two after and just as I was ready to get up and go I nearly passed out. The nurse got my feet raised, head back, cold air, cold compress etc and took my bp....which was so low. I have fainted previously so knew what was going on....but that was years ago. The funny thing is normally whenever I get my bp checked it is high...guess not this time. The nurse made me stay for quite a while until bp and fuzzy head disappeared. Even got a GP to check me over and was ok. I just wanted to know is this normal? Not looking forward to future injections if this is what happens...but hoping it was just a one off.... Thank you for your advice.

I had this a few weeks back - usually being jabbed and poked has never been an issue for me but I think because I was wearing face mask I must have been hyperventilating more that I realised. Low blood pressure is super typical when you have fainted so wouldn’t worry about that too much. You may just be someone who faints with needles now!

Thanks @FreyaFirstTimeMum I am hoping it was just a one-off.... needles don't usually bother me...had plenty of tests etc over the years, so this just came out of the blue. Though I think I will be dreading the next injection...just in case. The nurse was really nice though and said that sometimes pregnancy does weird things. Normally my bp is high...so this was a new one for me! Lol!

Could be a vasovagal syncope. Nothing to do with how you feel about needles, it's a stress reaction by your body which you don't control.

The chance is a little lower if you eat beforehand, but best to warn nurses before any injection, that way they can put the chair a bit back or maybe even inject you lying down. That helps with the blood pressure because lying down you don't need as much pressure.

It's also harmless, unless you happen to hurt yourself when falling down.

Thank you @rorosemary for your advice. I said to the nurse when I was leaving that for the next injection, I should maybe lie down...just in case it happens again. Will definitely eat and drink right beforehand...I did have lunch a couple of hours before appt but will try anything to try and avoid that again. When I was younger I was prone to feeling faint...thought that had gone....
