went to docs when about 5 weeks, having just found out. She said would set up midwife's appointment. Now 9 weeks and no news. Was down on south coast with ds and apart from that cant remember!! I also want a nuchal done at Kings and am a bit concerned that doc should be booking it. Have rang doctors and left a message but wondered if this is the norm in south london?

IIRC I didn't see a midwife until about 20 weeks.
I had my 12 scan at the hospital but apart from that I just saw the gp every 4 weeks or so.

lydialemon · 18/10/2004 14:12

IIRC I had my booking in appointment just after the nuchal fold scan. My Gp arranged the scan, but I had my antenatals with midwives at a mw run antenatal clinic (had to get refered though) I would have thought you should have had your appointment dates through by now, but I suppose it depends on how organised your GP is! I would make sure your GP gets back to you just in case

Congratulations BTW

Pidge · 18/10/2004 14:24

I never saw my GP at all - just the midwife, and she arranged my scans etc. If I was you I would give them a call and make sure your details haven't gone astray. I was due to be on holiday for over 2 weeks around the time of the 12 week scan and they were really good about fitting me in, but I did give them quite a few weeks notice (I'm also at King's by the way).

And congratulations!

I had my nuchal done at 13 weeks, then first midwife visit at about 15 weeks when the midwife said "oooh, you're very late in coming for your first visit" but they were the ones who gave me the appointment! They do seem very busy but it doesn't hurt just to give another ring and remind them you are still alive, all seems quite laid back to me though unless you are having problems..

Hello tab,
I went to my gp in bermondsey on 3rd of sept and he registered me on the system - whatever that means! I got 2 letters at the beginning of oct with dates for my first scan and first meeting with the midwife for oct 28th.

This all seemed quite prompt but I'm a bit cross because I've had absolutely no advice or info given to me by any of the 3 (male) drs that I've seen at my surgery about being pregnant or about my problems with morning sickness. Nobody told me about taking folic acid or that drinking water when you've got bad m/s is not a good idea! I've no idea what a nuchal fold test is for example! Anyway, grumble over. I'd chase up your gp or contact the hospital where the midwives are based if you haven't heard anything by now... Good luck!

Twinkie · 18/10/2004 14:49

Where are you in SL Tab - where we were they did the nuchal at the local hospital and then double checked at Kings before offering testing - think it normal not to be given a time to see midwife until you are 10 weeks. (I live in Sidcup/New Eltham if that helps)

aloha · 18/10/2004 15:27

My first appt this time was for my nuchal fold scan at around 11weeks. I didn't see a midwife until after this. I'm really happy to have as few appointments as possible. Had my 20 week scan three weeks ago and will see a midwife again in a few weeks.

aloha · 18/10/2004 15:27

If you are nine weeks and no news, chase this up via your doctor. They will fit you in for a nuchal at Kings at very short notice.

Congratulations everybody. Bermondsey sounds very organised raggybaggy. Im in Sydenham and trying to decide whether Lewisham or kings for the birth but hey its very early days! Oh thanks aloha, you've reassured me by saying that your first appointment was the nuchal. Im not really that bothered about the first midwife's appointment as my GP did take the blood tests (no results yet - I suppose 3 weeks is no time at all!!). just concerned that I havent already got lost in the system!! Good luck everybody. I might join the "due in may thread" - I see its huge already.

Hi - I'm in the area, I've had one baby at King's in 2001 and one in the Lewisham area in 2003. IMO I'd opt for King's, which has a new birth suite (since I was there), several pools and so on - Lewisham isn't as well equipped, I think (I took a brief look and went home to have the babe there ). But do CAT me if you want to talk over the comparisons more!

pooka · 21/10/2004 14:26

With DD I had my booking in appointment with surgery-based team of midwifes at 11 weeks and my nuchal scan at Kings at 13 weeks. And even that felt like ages to me - was so keen to get "in the system" that was at the doctors at about 3 weeks pregnant!

pooka · 21/10/2004 14:27

Actually, now I really think about it, my booking in appointment might have been nearer 9 and a half weeks, with the nuchal nearer 12.

Emmalina · 31/10/2004 11:57

I am also in SL - also went to doctors at five weeks and got my letter from Kings for nuchal fold scan about 10 days later. I would defo check with your doctor, but I'm sure Kings will fit you in if you have slipped through the net. Watch out for midwife appointment though. I had heard nothing from them by 13 weeks and it turns out I was not in the system, despite have the Kings scan. Mayday hospital lost my referral letter from the docs (doc insisted they sent it at 5 weeks) and I luckily got a cancellation appt at 14 weeks. They seemed very busy and disorganised so I would certainly chase yours up if things don't happen when you think they should. Good luck!

blossomhill · 31/10/2004 12:05

Sawa amidwife at 14 weeks and had my 1st scan at 13 weeks (only found out at the scan I was 13 instead of 12!)

HelloMama · 31/10/2004 12:21

My GP is in Bermondsey too! I had my scan when I was 12 weeks and about 5 days pregnant and then saw the midwife when I was about 14 weeks, which I thought was quite late - luckily I hadnt had any probs. I realy think that the 1st 12 weeks of pregnancy is the time when you really want to see someone and get some advice / support. Toward the end, when you're sick of being prodded and poked, they can't see you enough! SO I think you're experience is the norm. As far as I know, King's and St Thomas's both do Nuchal scanning as part of the routine 12 week scan, unlike a lot of hospitals elsewhere.

SANA · 01/11/2004 13:39

I am in clapham and went to GP at 6wks, had appointment letters the following week and booking appointment and first scan ( on the same day) at 12 wks, apparently u should have scan before u have the booking appointment (??). At my first scan they also booked my second scan at 22 weeks and at my booking appointment all my antenatal classes. I am under the shared scheme to see mw & then gp but have changed my appointments to mw only as much better- I am at St. Georges and they have been really good

tab · 01/11/2004 14:31

Hi everyone. Last week (10 weeks) I got a letter from doc saying midwife's appt on 18th November (will be 13 weeks) with no mention of nuchal scan appointment. I tried phoning surgery and no luck. i left two messages for a midwife to phone. Eventually went back for docs appointment to ask what's going on - dont you have any kind of system???!! He was very surprised that I hadnt received another letter asking me to ring up hosp to arrange time for scan. This letter did arrive the next day - but I had been given the impression by the doctor at my first visit that it would be the midwife who booked the nuchal!. I just felt so exasperated by the whole system. like you say hallomama you really do want some attention in the first 12 weeks because it seems like an absolute age until anybody begins to take the slightest interest!! Rant rant. I have now got my nuchal scan date for Lewisham - and am now thinking I would rather go to kings - (but I darent try and change any date now!!) Motherinferior, if you're still out there, have you seen the new suite at Kings?
Has anybody signed up with a community midwife scheme?
I feel very moany and bloated today. Ive just eaten a cadbury's caramel and I dont think I've eaten anything healthy all weekend. Just crap and loads and loads of it. Rant over.. sorry!!!
