Hi everyone,

I am expecting my first child and I am completely terrified. I joined the Babyworld forum but they weren't that helpful and some people were downright nasty so I stopped visiting it.

I am due on 02/04/2008 but as I have type 1 diabetes then they are going to induce me 2 weeks earlier.

I have been married for 4 months and live overseas on my husband's posting (not military). I am originally from Glasgow and really miss home, family & friends.

So I hope you will all be very helpful and I'll be able to ask loads of questions.

daisynova x

Hi daisynova - I'm a Glasgow girl - I live just outside the city now - well ok - in the middle of nowhere

I'm also 10 weeks pg due at the beginning of May.

Congratulations by the way!

Have a look in the Ante Natal CLub section and find the "due in April" thread, you'll find loads of lovely people on there.

Keep posting

stressteddy · 08/10/2007 13:57

Welcome daisyn - just keep looking around and adding comments whenever you want to. Congratulations by the way.

HerculesMorseAsBigAsAnElephant · 08/10/2007 14:04

Hello and welcome and congratulations!
I second the advice about looking for the April '08 antenatal thread (or indeed the March one, if you're going to be induced a month early!)

daisynova · 08/10/2007 14:12

Thanks girls - will join the ante-natal club now.

Bobsmum - I am from Cumbernauld where my parents still live. Also the middle of nowhere!

What's it Called? Cumbernauld!!! (Showing my age now )

Kewcumber · 08/10/2007 14:32

where do you live overseas - there are quite a few overseas MN'ers.

We're really really nasty though so brace yourself , though generally not if posters have warned that they need sympathy!

PregnantGrrrl · 08/10/2007 14:33

hello! I got married 4 mths ago too, and i'm expecting my 2nd baby soon (11 days!!)

i'm intruiged about the nasty comments on another forum. what was that all about?

daisynova · 08/10/2007 14:51

bobsmum - I remember that too!

The BW comments aren't worth worrying over tbh - just found the women on there harder to speak to you and when I posted something slightly controversial but personal to me, I was flamed. It wasn't necessary.

daisynova · 08/10/2007 14:51

kewcumber - I am in Amsterdam so not that far from home but far enough x

Welcome daisynova. I am soon to go overseas with my husband's job too, so will find out what it is like being a mum abroad. I have a two-year-old and am expecting my 2nd in December.
I prefer Mumsnet to other boards because you CAN be slightly controversial, I think it is a bit edgier than some of the others and people aren't afraid to discuss some of the more taboo subjects, nor to disagree with each other. However I have found the women on the Due Dec board totally supportive and friendly, it's certainly a good way to realise you are not suffering alone!

daisynova · 08/10/2007 17:26

Claraq - do you know where you are going?

Hey, congrats daisynova your antenatal thread should make you feel right at home, waiting with a big cup of cocoa for you.

claraq · 09/10/2007 09:44

daisynova - yes, somewhere a little further than Amsterdam! We are going to Islamabad so very different. Have lived overseas before but never with children so this will be a whole new challenge. However, having children is a brilliant way to meet people so if you are feeling a little lonely at the moment hopefully this will change once your baby comes along.
I have visited Amsterdam a few times, it's a lovely city (once you get past the stag/hen parties!) and I assume very baby/child friendly.
Are you going to have any family coming to stay after the baby is born?

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 09/10/2007 09:50

Hello

you're due same day as me , I expect you'll deliver earlier if booked early but not necesarily- ds1 was induced rearly, ds2 came early, ds3 came late (try a prediction absed on that love LOL!)

Welcome. if you look at the antenatal section, there's a due in April thread you are most welcome to join in on. We're a friendly bunch LOL!

Sympathies living away from home- we live only 60 miles from family etc (I am a student) but it may as well be hundreds as they don't drive. As Dh works nights and 2 of my boys have special needs, this is iisolating enough- dread to think what it must be like to be abroad!

daisynova · 10/10/2007 21:12

Claraq - one of my best friends is in Islamabad on a posting. If you are going there with the FCO or HO let me know and I shall be able to put you in touch with her. She has 2 boys aged 6m and 2yrs.

My Mum is coming over for the birth - she used to be a GYN nurse so she can be a real help. Though she is now in a wheelchair and she'll be the first person thrown out if they need the room!

PFCWB - I have joined the March antenatal club only because the baby will be coming in March - there is no way they are allowing me to go over 38 weeks. Nice to meet you though and I am sorry to hear that you feel isolated. Sounds like you have your hands full!

Daisynova - yes will be based at British High Commission in Islamabad - have been in touch with a couple of people out there already and have a (single, no kids) friend there but always useful to get to know others in advance of going out. It is a massive mission, the biggest in the world I gather, but lucky for me lots of people with small children.
It's a small world isn't it!

daisynova · 11/10/2007 18:03

claraq - very small world indeed! I am in Amsterdam on my husbands HO posting but I hate it. It's a small consulate with only 5 dip staff and 16 LE staff - they are downsizing it next year though so I'll be glad to leave it (I'm doing LE work).

I'll email you with my mate's details as she would be a good ally - her two wee boys are lovely.

OP posts:
claraq · 12/10/2007 09:23

hey daisynova - is this your (your husbands) first posting? If so welcome to the wonderful world of FCO management!!! A friend of mine did a float in Amsterdam a few years ago and I went out to see her. It was a great place for a weekend but she said it was a wierd posting.
I am contemplating LE work in Islamabad as I already have all clearances/vettings etc needed - but the low pay will probably put me off. However I might get so desperately bored I will do anything.....Normally we would do as much travelling as possible but there are quite a few restrictions in the country, plus travelling with a baby and a two/three year old might not be that practical!
I think a few trips to Thailand/Dubai/the Maldives might be in order though!
Do you know how to email through mumsnet? There is something called CAT but I have not worked out what it means.....
Btw have you posted on the mums abroad threads? Might be someone there in Amsterdam....

daisynova · 12/10/2007 15:46

Claraq - it is my husband's first long term posting but we have both been posted to New Delhi (me) and The Gambia (him) previously as short termers. We're both Home Office so you can guess what we were doing! He's doing airline work just now though and he loves it.

Your friend is right - Amsterdam is a weird posting. Really small and the LE staff are strange - excluding myself obviously!

I can't figure out how to email you plus it is now saying it wants £5 from me so that I can email you???? Strange!

I'm so jealous that you will get to go somewhere warm - I am fed up freezing to death here!

OP posts:
claraq · 12/10/2007 17:25

Daisy - I know lots of people in the HO who have done entry clearance work, as well as being based at airports here. I bet we know some people in common!
Does your friend like Islamabad? I am still not sure if we are making the right decision as we are really happy here, but it's a good time to go now before the children start school, and if nothing else it will be another adventure for us. We were previously in Kingston (anyone reading this will know exactly who I am by now!).
I'll see if I can pay the mumsnet fee and then SHOULD be able to send you a CAT message with my email address. It might take a little while (everything does with me at the moment, can't do much when my dd is around - my husband is currently feeding her, I am supposed to be on the internet finding a recipe for chicken pie...!).

MrsMcSpooky · 12/10/2007 17:59

Hey Daisy - congratulations! I am so sorry to hear that others haven't been nice I have never had anything but support, friendship and motivation from Mumsnet ladies so I hope that your experience is totally different here x

daisynova · 13/10/2007 13:40

MrsMcSpooky - so far everyone has been lovely on here. Thanks x

Claraq - we probably do know many of the same people. I know folks in Kingston just now and people who were there a few years ago. I used to be a trainer for UKvisas so got to know loads of people in the FCO through that.

Hi daisy

seems this baby now due March as well LOL, but can't be changing the An group now- too muchhassle! good luck thoughX

daisynova · 13/10/2007 20:16

Hey PFCWB,

I was in two minds about which antenatal club to join so I look in both now as I have the same feelings as the due=April gals yet know I will be having my baby at the same time as the due-March gals.
