Latent labour and early term birth advice/experiences

Yesterday at 37+1 I ended up going in to be monitored after a day of reduced fetal movements. I also didn't feel particularly well... my appetite has been down over the last couple of days and I feel quite nauseous and had a background low level tummy ache. Baby was absolutely fine on the monitor, but when the doctor came in she showed me that they had picked up regular contractions about every 3 minutes lasting 10-20 seconds every time. She asked if I'd felt them and I said yeah I was having Braxton Hicks. She said that due to the regularity and the strength she wouldn't class them as BH, they were actual contractions. I was offered an induction there and then but declined with confirmation that baby is fine and things seem to be starting naturally. I've been asked to go back in today for further monitoring. She also confirmed with a scan that baby's head is now fully engaged.

I'm a bit shell shocked tbh! I know I'm full term but only just, and had totally built myself up to go overdue. I don't feel ready! Still need to finish packing my bags 😬 I've been able to sleep on and off tonight but had to take paracetamol around 2am to allow me to get a solid block of sleep got a few hours.

I know that no one has a crystal ball, but I'm wondering how long this is likely to go on, so would like to hear some people's experiences of very early labour! Particularly if your contractions were picked up by a CTG before you even realised! Pain is currently pretty low, just tightenings and cramps a bit like mild-moderate period pains, so it feels like it's very early days, but the doctor seemed to think things could ramp up. I sort of hope not, I haven't even started my mat leave yet!

Also any stories reassuring me that babies born at this gestation are fine would be lovely 😊 A little worried he's not fully cooked yet!

My little girl was born at 37+6 and completely healthy. I was induced at 37+3 and it would have been slightly earlier if my birth centre had the space. 37 weeks is classed as full term so baby will be fully cooked. The way I saw it was that if Drs with tonnes of experience are telling me that 37 weeks is term and they have no concerns with baby coming so early, then I needed to trust them. From my experience, drs want to keep baby in for as long as possible, but once 37 weeks is met, they're happy for baby to come anytime. I was induced for a different reason but in a similar position in that i expected to go overdue so I was slightly shocked that baby would need to come early (although I did have a little longer than you to wrap my head around it). You will be fine, you'll have a couple of extra weeks of cuddles with your baby and you won't have half the world messaging you in 3 weeks time asking whether you're in labour/ had the baby yet 😂. Good luck OP.

I'm stunned they offered to induce you OP! Unless you have started to dilate?
I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago and I'm now 38+1 and they sent me home and I was having contractions every 4 minutes. They told me I'm in latent phase and this can last days or even weeks! Clearly the latter in my case as It's all gone quiet since then and I was in yesterday with high BP and baby is just happily cooking away with no sign he is en route any time soon!
Wishing you all the best OP!

@lockdownpregnancy yeah I was really shocked at the offer of induction! Particularly seeing as baby seemed absolutely fine. She said seeing as things are starting we're happy to speed them along... I declined pretty quickly!

@lockdownpregnancy she did say she was only offering it because I'm full term, so if I'd have come in a few days earlier then she wouldn't have

Any other experiences of latent labour?

I'm so fed up I would have snapped her hand off at the offer of an induction 😂😂
I can't offer any other advice or info on latent labour, just that mine is lasting a lot longer than I thought 😭😭

@lockdownpregnancy the contractions are starting to ramp up a bit now. Still easily manageable and definitely early stages but I'm having to stop and breathe through some of them. Have yours been like that for weeks? How are you coping?!

Mine are easily managed but there has been the odd day when I can't talk and just brace and breath which my MW said is sure sign my body is getting ready for labour.
Just back from my MW apt and baby is measuring above 90th centile and around 7lb 15oz and I still have two weeks left!!!
He is 3/5 engaged too so can be another couple of weeks, could be a couple of days.
My concern now is how big he'll be when he makes an appearance! My poor lady parts are in for a tough time! 😭😭😭
