Does this mean I need an anti D injection?

Hi all,

Currently 17+5 weeks pregnant and have a negative blood group.

I went shopping earlier and accidentally bumped my stomach (not where baby is, slightly higher) with a bag that had a 1 litre juice drink in. It didn't hurt me or anything but I know you're supposed to have an anti D if you have any bumps etc.

Is this serious enough to have an anti D injection ?

How serious should it be?

Thanks so much Grin

I dont think it sounds like a bump that would cause an issue.

You don't need one for that.

I got one when pg with my son when someone swung open a door and the handle hit my stomach so hard that it bruised.

They don't automatically give anti d anyway, they do a blood test to determine if there is any blood mixing then call you back for an anti d if they think it's necessary.

Honestly don't worry about it, I'm pg with my second now and would never be away from the hospital if I went for small bumps like that. Thanks

@dementedpixie and @unimaginativeusernamehere that's so reassuring to hear!!!

I'm a first timer so I worry about everything and I don't even have a midwife number to call which sucks Sad

I have to go to Mumsnet for reassurance instead haha!

I've tried calling my hospital but nobody's there over the weekend. Is it still worth calling Monday to be on the safe side?

Honestly, don't worry about that, if it didn't even hurt. I'm RH negative too. I've been repeatedly bumped harder than that by my toddler, and it hasn't crossed my mind to go in.

It's definitely a lot more nerve wracking being pg with your first. And I feel for you doing this first time during a pandemic too.

I honestly wouldn't even bother calling tbh but if you're going to worry about it then it might make you feel better to call.
