Any 3rd trimester mums to be in Sussex?

I’m 33 weeks and getting a bit fed up - we’re being careful with the social distancing due to Covid, and it’s a bit lonely and boring!!

Are there any Sussex area mums, or mums-to-be, who want to form a messaging friendship & support group?

I have a 3yo DD, and last time I was pregnant I was lucky enough to have two pregnant close friends at the same time. Being able to message about pregnancy and breast feeding etc was such a nice support!

So yeah - if you’re in the Sussex area and due in the next couple of months, please say hi!

East Sussex or West Sussex? It’s a huge area so if you’re a bit more specific about whereabouts you may get some responses.

Mollymarvelous70 · 13/09/2020 19:23

Hey! Yes 36 weeks Smile due to go to Brighton but becoming nervous about covid restrictions. I’m not social distancing with close friends and family .. I don’t have many just a handful . But I found staying at home and not seeing them was more detrimental to my mental heath And when I saw them I just needed a hug !

Gerdticker · 13/09/2020 22:07

@AbbieFB I’m right in the middle, so both east and West Sussex work for me!

@Mollymarvelous70 congrats! Yes my DH and I made a plan for us to totally isolate for a fortnight before my due date, but to be honest we’re being extremely careful now anyway, so it won’t feel a huge change.

Having come this far without getting COVID I’d really like to avoid it now!

I’m going to PRH at haywards Heath, so we’re in the same trust, BSUH. So far things have been ok for me, although like everyone I’m sad that DH hasn’t been able to be involved with appointments. It’s v different to my first pregnancy.

@Gerdticker I havn’t seen much in the way of evidence that pregnant women are more at risk. It’s a personal decision.

The trust has been okay do far . At the beginning I was seeing different midwives and cancelled face to face appointment etc all felt stressful . Going to scans alone as a first time mum was scary . Sadly the sonographer didn’t let me FaceTime it anything. I’m sure they have their reasons but it was unpleasant. Thankfully he has been able to come to the midwife appointments that are not at the hospital.

I’m starting to feel nervous about the restrictions on birthpartners. Have you been following the #butnotmaternity campaign?

Cobbsgirl92 · 13/09/2020 22:51

Hey I’m in East Sussex. Not quite in third trimester but 26 weeks so not far away!
Planning to have baby at Hastings but my friends have had babies in both Brighton and Hayward’s Heath. Smile

Gerdticker · 13/09/2020 22:58

@Mollymarvelous70
Ok that’s interesting that your DP has been allowed to go to midwife appointments - we’re still not allowed here, I think unless you have to see a consultant in hospital. But I’m lucky we have done this one before, and I really feel for you that this is your first time experience, it’s not ideal.

I haven’t followed that hash tag no... will hi and google it now....

@Cobbsgirl92 Hi, and congrats! Yes you’re v near 3rd trimester, so you definitely qualify! How are you finding pregnancy so far?

I'm in Brighton! Coming up to 37 weeks now.

Gerdticker · 14/09/2020 09:49

@Buzz22 hi! Congrats :) how is your pregnancy going?

Do you plan to deliver at Brighton too, like @Mollymarvelous70 ?

Buzz22 · 14/09/2020 10:15

@Gerdticker I've been really lucky and have had a nice easy pregnancy.
I've been very well looked after by consultants and midwives as we sadly lost our first baby last October at 22 weeks. This pregnancy in comparison has been so straightforward. I have had a few growth scans as my bump measures small but baby is measuring fine and fitting in there somewhere!
Do you know if you are expecting a boy or girl?

PRH maternity is supposed to be great. Even though we live in brighton we did have the option of delivering there. However due to our last pregnancy it was decided that it may be best to be near the neonatal facilities in brighton. My friend had her baby in Haywards heath at the beginning of lockdown and said they were brilliant.

Mollymarvelous70 · 14/09/2020 11:35

Hey @Buzz22 glad to hear it’s been an easy pregnancy . I feel lucky mine has been very smooth . Although I’m always looking for problems Hmm . I’ve heard equally really good things about the two hospitals and the care they provide . Covid aside we are in good hands.

My antenatal group have just started giving birth now so it’s becoming very real !

MsSian93 · 14/09/2020 12:01

Hi!

I'm mid sussex and due to be induced at PRH on Saturday. I've been a regular in the Day assessment unit there due to high blood pressure and all the staff have been great and so thorough with me. Though i wish the restrictions around birth would be lifted so partners can be there from the start i'm confident i'll be in good hands with the doctord and midwifes!

Gerdticker · 14/09/2020 17:38

Hi @MsSian93 Congrats! Eek that’s so exciting. I’ve only heard good things about PRH so it sounds like you’re in good hands

My midwife said it’s nice and small so the staff know each other :)

I had my last baby at a different midwife only unit, but sadly had a postpartum haemorrhage So they have insisted on hospital this time. But everyone I speak to only has good things to say about the place

Is this your first baby - Do you know what you’re having?

@Buzz22 I’m so sorry for your loss last time, that must have been incredibly tough. So Very glad to hear things going well this time... and not long to go now!

My own mum had all three children at Brighton and spoke highly of it - albeit 30 yrs ago now..!

Great to hear your friend had a good experience at PRH. I’m really collecting up all these positive reviews of the place as ideally I didn’t want to be in hospital - would have preferred MLU or homebirth, but I have a couple of risk factors that have ruled that out.

@Cobbsgirl92 @Buzz22 @Mollymarvelous70 @MsSian93 @AbbieFB
Have any of you guys done antenatal classes or hypnobirthing locally? (Well.. via zoom anyway..!)

I did hypnobirthing last time and loved it, and have just bought the positive birth company’s course to do a refresher and get myself back in the zone!

OP posts:
Mollymarvelous70 · 14/09/2020 19:43

I’ve done quite a bit , nct via zoom , hypnobirthing audio books (can recommend) , I’ve also purchased the positive birth company buy havnt started it really yet . I got a few days left at work so once that’s fine it will be meditations and raspberry leaf tea all day !

MsSian93 · 15/09/2020 12:49

@Gerdticker First baby and i'm having a boy Smile

I haven't done any antenatal or hypobirthing, i've been on furlough since March so couldn't justify paying out for any of those. Shame the NHS didn't run any classes but theres so much information out there online i'm happy to take things as they come and do my own research!

Gerdticker · 15/09/2020 13:19

@MsSian93 a boy! so exciting. I don't know what i'm having - I'm one of those weirdos that likes the surprise!

yes antenatal courses are soooo expensive, and I agree you can get tons of good stuff online for free :)

Last time around, I sat my DH down for a morning one weekend, and we watched this whole series on youtube, it's by a canadian midwife but it's so good! there's a bit of waffle to start with, but the rest is great

We did pay for a hypnobirthing course, and I'm so glad we did.. i was very sceptical but am a complete convert now! i highly highly recommend studying the key principals - but again there's loads of stuff online for free :)

@Mollymarvelous70 ok cool - which hynobirthing audiobooks do you recommend?

OP posts:
Mollymarvelous70 · 15/09/2020 15:21

@Gerdticker
Sophie fletcher mindful Hypnobirthing - it’s lovely and puts me to sleep if I’m not careful

Rebecca shriller No guilt pregnancy plan - not quite hypnobirthing more just her guidance but it was very soothing and positive , aligns to hypnobirthing

CBhope · 15/09/2020 15:36

I’m also due to have baby at PRH and currently approaching 30 weeks. I’m the first of my friends to have a baby and a FTM so it is the complete unknown for me! Glad to see positive things about PRH though

Gerdticker · 15/09/2020 15:50

Hi @CBhope congratulations :)

I used mumsnet a lot with my first baby (3 years ago) to ask random questions - I have found it mostly very helpful indeed!
Now i'm pregnant with my second i've found myself back on this forum, I enjoy the camaraderie and it's nice to occasionally dish out advice too!

OP posts:
CBhope · 15/09/2020 19:03

Agreed I find it very helpful! I started when we got some bad news at a scan (thankfully all ok now) and I just needed to hear from other mums going through the same thing and I now I find it my go to for all things baby.. otherwise I’d be asking my partner who has no clue or my mother who’s advice became outdated about 35 years ago 😬.. hope you and the other heavily pregnant mamas on this thread are coping well in today’s heat 🥵

Mollymarvelous70 · 16/09/2020 21:47

@CBhope oh the heat! Even the last few days have been awful . Feet are swollen and shoes don’t fit . Never thought I’d looking forward to wrapping up so much .

How is everyone getting on ? I’m just a few days off finishing work which I’m very excited about . I can’t imagine what it’s like to not work for 12 whole months . Appreciate it will be hard in a different way but getting rid of the mental load seems so liberating !
