Maternity coats!

Did you buy one or make do with a bigger normal one? I'm due in February and live in Aberdeen so it's pretty cold October-May and I'm thinking I'm best to shell out and get a decent coat. We spend a lot of time outdoors so it will be well used.

Any recommendations of where to look? Thanks!

I brought a maternity coat with my first and I'm pleased I did - it saw me through the winter and then the first few weeks post birth too. I went for a parka style that looked ok for work and the weekend. I didn't spend loads as I had another more casual winter coat I knew I would wear on mat leave. I'm on the coast in N England so need something warm!

I just wore my normal coat for both of my winter births.

I did buy a maternity poncho, ( that sounds hideous but it was lovely, expensive, but worth it) . My actual coats were not maternity but voluminous so worked through pregnancy and also afterwards. Wrap shaped coats -with a belt but no buttons - can work well as you can belt them above the bump. Swing coats have enough volume to cover the bump normally, or an oversized parka. You may need to size up, depending on your shape, but if you get a coat that looks good oversized then it will be something you can wear after the baby is born as well as during pregnancy.
If you like a very slim, fitted shape then a maternity coat probably is your best bet though.

I’m lucky my DH is a lot bigger than me, so I can borrow his!

I don’t work in an office though so I don’t need to be super smart or anything

I recently bought one for £20 in the asda sale, it has a zip off section to expand it. My baby is due in December. Not sure how much use I'll get out of it but for that price I thought it's worth having in case.

It was "Maternity Black Removable Panel Padded Longline Coat" and they sold out pretty fast. I think they come back in stock intermittently, maybe when they get returns.

I recently bought one from gap, it was on sale.

TumbleBingQuack · 12/09/2020 17:24

I bought this one:
www.vertbaudet.co.uk/3-in-1-adaptable-maternity-post-maternity-padded-jacket-black-dark-solid.htm?ProductId=001000054&FiltreCouleur=6559&t=1

It can be used with the panel while pregnant or after pregnancy, with the panel when baby is in a sling or without the panel otherwise.

Pricey but it's still in good condition 3 years after buying it!

Ebaaayyyyyy

Also a double breasted coat, fasten it on the wrong set of buttons Grin

Thanks everyone! Loads of great ideas. My normal coats are all fitted so won't cut it! Will definitely look on eBay and at the coats linked!

I bought one 3 sizes too big that had a zip up and a drawstring. Cost me £15 in Sainsbury's and did me through two winter babies.
