Lletz procedure and premature birth (large loop - smears)

Hi.

I had a LLetz procedure 11 years ago (general aneasthetic) and at the time it was explained that a possible risk is premature birth. There was no question, I had to have the procedure.

Here I am 11 years later, pregnant with my first, and now want to know anyone else's experiences.

If you've had one, did you reach full term with your first pregnancy?

I have had 2 lletz in between my first and second. With my second i had to have internal scans to check the length of the cervix as they can put a stitch in if its shortening. I was all ok on that front but when I gave birth I had a torn cervix from scar tissue as they didn't warn me about the opposite effect! I was so paranoid about her staying in I didn't realise she was welded shut in lol.

Was all OK in the end. Had stitches in my cervix for the tear.

I Have had letz procedure - I had scans to check cervix during pregnancy as may have needed a stitch. I didn’t and they didn’t seem concerned.
I got to 36 weeks and needed a c-section (for other reasons though)

I’ve had one lletz procedure - was convinced DS was gonna be early.
Had to be induced at 40+12 😂😂

I had a lletz August 2018. Gave birth January 2020. No extra scans or internal exams required. Induced at 40 + 10.

Thanks @ramblingsonthego @Changeagain1 @SquigglyOne @Sunbites84 glad you have some success stories.

I'll give my midwife a call on Monday as I've had no mention about internal exams or stitches (and other people I've spoken to have mentioned that too).

Can I ask if you bled / spotted much during your pregnancy? I am 14 weeks and had no spotting at all until 11 weeks, and now it's every day, mainly brown, sometimes dark red. Hospital says it's nothing to worry about, but it's every day and not sure when "normal" needs to turn into "worrying". Could it be linked to a shortened cervix?

Thanks everyone

Can’t help you with that one - I didn’t bleed at all during pregnancy.
I have heard that lots of women do bleed the whole way through without any problems though 😊

I’m currently 20 weeks, they’re monitoring me with cervical scans every few weeks but so far everything seems ok, and I haven’t had any bleeding during my pregnancy

I had Lletz nine months before I fell pregnant for CIN2. I had bleeding in the first trimester following intercourse, then also noticed bleeding when I went for a wee half way through my 12 week scan. Was under the consultant for other things anyway, checked my cervix at 21 weeks and it was 3.5cm, checked again at 22 and 23 weeks due to the spotting and other problems I'd had that were unrelated. Internal scan at 24 weeks showed that my cervix had shortened to 2.4cm. Was then given progesterone pessaries to use three times a day, and steroid injections. At 32 weeks my consultant signed me off as baby was engaged and my cervix was very soft, stopped the pessaries at 36 weeks. At 37 weeks I went in for reduced movements and they checked me, was 1cm dilated juts a week after stopping the pessaries, I eventually went into labour at 40+5 🙄 lol

I was lucky that I avoided the stitch as too risky at 24 weeks, but so happy to have been monitored throughout
