When to stop wearing underwired bras?

Am 6.5 wks pg and already my boobs are sore. But I'm a massive 32G so if I stop wearing my lovely underwired bras I will look even bigger. They fit me ok atm, but is underwiring still a bad idea during pg?

When do I need to switch to soft cups? I remember doing that quite early on with ds, but as I increased in size over time it was a huge expense. I'm a completely different size this time round. Any ideas????

NEVER! i didnt with ds2 and 3

welshmum · 18/10/2004 10:59

I must admit I was the same - wore mine all the way through. The woman in M&S was appalled but I had no problems with breastfeeding. There might be some better research out now to support(!) the ban on underwiring - I haven't kept up - someone will have though.

bakedpotato · 18/10/2004 11:01

mudda, i am still in underwired bras at 24 wks. like you, i'm ample, so can't face prospect of binning them.

know this is hijacking, and apologies, but would love to know, has anyone found THE perfect supportive mat/feeding bra? pref one you can get off internet? also I hated the ones i had for PG1, which i had to drag over my head or step into and haul up over my bump. can you get one that fix with a clasp?

codswallop · 18/10/2004 11:03

yes I had a good one that let on boob supported whilst you undid hte other one

sleeplessmumof2 · 18/10/2004 11:05

just went to be fitted for a new bra as had ds2 9 weeks ago and already huge boobs have decided not reduce again and was told by the lady in the shop that it is perfectly ok to were underwired all the way through so long as they fit correctly and are not too tight to block any glands!!!!!

Have a selection of nursing and maternity bras of differing sizes 34 dd - 36 f and loads in between let me know if anyone wants them. They are in good condition i think!!!!

aloha · 18/10/2004 11:05

I'm 23 weeks and wearing a 34E (yikes!) underwired bra. I feel better in it than in the bolster-like maternity bras. For a feeding bra, I think the Elle Macpherson one is the nicest by far.

codswallop · 18/10/2004 11:05

its was snt this but this sis noce

codswallop · 18/10/2004 11:06

aloha
34e pah!

katzguk · 18/10/2004 11:10

hmm thinking of staying underwired myself now!! i am currently/normally a 34F and i know they are getting bigger!!

sleepless i would be interested in the 36F's found i went bigger round aswell as boobs lst time

bakedpotato · 18/10/2004 11:15

this is encouraging news re underwiring.

Cod, by 'fixing with a clasp' i meant ones that you put your arms into and then close around the back, rather than stepping into like a hoop. is it usual for a feeding bra to close in this way? perhaps the ones i had, that didn't, were the freaks. i do hope so

aloha · 18/10/2004 11:15

Well, I feel huge! Mind you, caught sight of my bottom in the bathroom mirror the other day, which was a pretty shocking thing to happen to a woman.

sleeplessmumof2 · 18/10/2004 11:16

katzguz, cat me your address and i will post them to you with anything bigger too!!!

codswallop · 18/10/2004 11:19

I never stepped int o any!

bakedpotato · 18/10/2004 11:25

what a relief they're not all like that

popsycal · 18/10/2004 11:26

mothercare have a very pretty non-underwired bra and m&s have a couple of nice ones too....
mothercare actually have a bra and knicker set

MrsDoolittle · 18/10/2004 11:29

I never stopped wearing one - it hurt not to TBH.
It's essential that you wear a bra with wires that sit in your ribcage and nowhere near your breast tissue, if you do though. A bra that fits you properly really.
Ignore all those people who act appalled, they don't know really!

Flossam · 18/10/2004 11:46

Sorry, I always assumed it was normal but perhaps its not. I've gotten huge rib size well as well. Used to be a 34 now a 38 and they are quite tight am I just a fat heffer?!

katzguk · 18/10/2004 11:48

thanks sleepless will do - the bigger the better!!

sleeplessmumof2 · 18/10/2004 11:49

no your not a fat heffer, me niether its because your rib cage actually expands to accommodate the baby and some of us poor cows just never shrunk down again.

Flossam · 18/10/2004 11:52

Never?!
So as I'm moving I mights as well just chuck all my pretty little bras away then? I won't have a hope in hell of getting back in them?

katzguk · 18/10/2004 11:53

i got my ribcage back after DD but the boobs were bigger!! went from a 34E to a 34F

katzguk · 18/10/2004 11:54

have to confess still haven't thrown away all my bras which are now too small, just can't quite bring myself too!!

sleeplessmumof2 · 18/10/2004 11:55

some people are lucky (or good dieters >>>) and do go back to original size, not me tho''''

welshmum · 18/10/2004 11:55

I changed completely - from 36C to 32E. I still can't believe that

muddaofsuburbia · 18/10/2004 12:26

So the general concensus seems to be, keep wearing the u/w bras as long as they fit properly? (very hopeful here..) Can't bear to go back to granny bras again - they didn't make maternity bras in my size last time anyway!
