Shingles or ICP? Help x

Hello :)

I'm 36 weeks pregnant! Eeek :)

So I developed a rash on Monday which I thought initially was a sweat rash maybe or something but as the days have gone on it's hot sore and worse and spreading.

My midwife is testing my liver tomorrow for ICP which I had never heard of?

I went to pharmacy today and he said 100% it's shingles?! What do people think? I'll put pictures on if it's development over last few days.

Not really worried as both issues don't cause harm to baby but I'm curious as to what it is.

Thanks xx

I'm not sure it is shingles as that follows the line of a nerve and doesn't normally cross the midline. Shingles normally looks blistery like chicken pox and then the blisters scab over

If it is shingles you would normally need to take antivirals to lessen the severity

Blissfulignorance · 10/09/2020 17:25

That's not shingles, 100% not. Looks more like a fungal rash, try canesten cream twice a day for a few days.

Agree, it’s neither. ICP doesn’t cause a rash. Sweat, maybe fungal, try antifungal as PP suggested and see GP if you need to.

Defo not shingles.
Prob fungal. First thing I'd try is an anti fungal ointment for a few days.
Hope it gets better soon.

I was going to say the same as @Blissfulignorance - given its location it looks fungal to me! Have you tried any 1% clotrimazole (canesten) cream?

X posted with @TenThousandSpoons0 & @GreenPlum

ICP doesn't come with a rash. PUPPP does - Polymorphic eruption of pregnancy, which actually looks quite similar to your photos.

Doesn't look like shingles to me - shingles is blistery-looking, like chicken pox.

PUPPS isn't a risk to baby, but ICP can be (hence the importance of being tested - I was induced due to ICP)

Thank you everyone for your replies. I'm in with the midwife today so will update :)
