When to tell work?

Wondering what the general consensus is about telling work about pregnancy?
Normally I'd have no problem waiting until 12 week scan but with Covid I'm wondering if I should tell them sooner?

For clarity I work in a primary school so social distancing is difficult, and it was highlighted at our training day that pregnant members of staff require an individual risk assessment. But how soon is too soon?!

Honestly given that you're in a school i would probably tell them straight away, i work in retail and i told HR and my area manager at 5 weeks. Risk assesment was done straight awaySmile completely up to you though!

That was my gut instinct too, especially as I had to send 2 of my class home with tv a cough today! Just got to pluck up the courage now- the head is notoriously awkward during these conversations Confused

I’m in the same boat and told my head on the inset before the children came back when I was around 6 weeks.

It was earlier than I’d have planned (would have happily waited until 12 weeks) but as you say, we had to do a risk assessment and it also means I’ve had to tell my team as I work in early years with some 1:1 children who can’t independently manage hygiene (covering mouth when coughing / hand washing etc) so it was important my team knew why I would be distancing (as best as you can with 4 year olds) from these children and dealing with any toilet accidents etc.

My head has been really lovely about it and keeps checking in on me. Her main advice is just looking after myself! X

I'm NHS and I told at 5 weeks, it was awkward but needed to be done! I would advise the same for you

TBH my closest colleagues know and it's been nice to have a bit of a moan about how rubbish I'm feeling (just struggled through until 12 weeks in previous pregnancies)

Thanks! I'll be telling her this week I think just to make sure things are in place.

Interesting @MabelBunny4 about telling the team you're in, I'm in Year 6 so easier to distance but I guess my immediate team will
Need to know so I don't get stuck dealing with unwell children. Oh the joys of Covid and the complications it brings!!

I told my manager pretty early so I didn't have to go into the office, hr at 12w and colleagues at 20w
