Worried by midwife..

So I'm 33+6 and had my midwife appointment today, blood pressure is perfect, heartbeat is perfect etc.. but when it came to measuring bump she's booked me in for a scan tomorrow morning! She wanted me to go today but I couldn't get there 😩 the reason for the scan is because she's been measuring big throughout and it's suddenly dropped.. also she says baby's head is down which I'm taking as a good thing? I also see my consultant a week today..
Has anyone had this? Just need to put my mind at rest that everything is absolutely fine as my anxiety is through the roof 🤦🏼‍♀️

The first time the midwife measures my bump I was sent for a growth scan as I was measuring too small apparently. Then I get to the scan where they tell me baby was measuring larger than average. DS was born 8lb3. I really think these bump measurements need to be taken with a pinch of salt

Mother2princess · 09/09/2020 15:28

The measuring is very unreliable growth scans are a bit better

veeboo · 09/09/2020 15:40

Yes i had this. The midwife measurement is very unscientific. Try not to worry. They have to refer you. You'll have a growth scan to check measurements. I had this several times during pregnancy and always fine. If they are concerned they will order a second scan to check continued growth.

veeboo · 09/09/2020 15:40

And yes head down is a good thing. Exactly where you want baby.

Findahouse21 · 09/09/2020 15:44

I ended up with 3 additional scans because if a small bump. Dd weighed 6lb 15 at birth so smallish but no issues

yevans · 09/09/2020 15:53

I had an additional scan around the same time, again because it showed baby's growth had dropped. Scan showed all was absolutely fine and DD was born a healthy weight at 40 weeks. Human error happens and they would rather be on the safe side and scan you unnecessarily than miss something! Hope all goes well for you!

I got sent for a growth scan last week as according to bump measurements it wasn’t following the line of the curve they expect, and thought he might be big. My friend who is due a few days behind me Was sent because they thought her baby was small.

Both have ended up fine once we’ve had our scans and actually appear to be a perfectly normal size. Measuring by bump is difficult and if you have a different midwife measuring every time then results tend to be even more inaccurate.

I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to worry to much, I think a lot of the time these things end up being absolutely fine, but the midwifes would rather be safe than sorry.

Thankyou ladies, you're already putting my mind at rest! I'll let you all know tomorrow ☺️

Also was wondering if tomorrow they'd let me partner in, I haven't heard any news if my hospital or if any hospital is allowing partners in at all for any appointments?
Also with my anxiety being through the roof as I'm still slightly panicking it would be nice if he could go in if anything was wrong at all.. 😩

Often your bump will drop as babies head engages. That's what you want. She's just double checking.

cantstopsinginglittlebabybum · 09/09/2020 19:44

Growth scans are also unreliable so take whatever they say with a pinch of salt.

I was scanned week before I had dd and they said around 8lb 9 and she was 11lb 4oz at birth.

Catchingbabies · 09/09/2020 20:02

I’m a midwife. The measurement with a tape measure has shown to be quite accurate IF measured regularly by the same midwife, in the same position, same angle of recline with a completely empty bladder. So basically not what currently happens in the NHS. Any drop in growth has to be investigated by scan and in my trust the policy is that scan must happen within 48 hours. Most women sent in for a scan will find everything is absolutely fine, I really wouldn’t worry at this point. X

ChlOeWh · 10/09/2020 11:37

Hiiii, just an update ☺️

Had the scan this morning and everything is absolutely fine, Thankyou so much to you all for putting my mind at rest!
34 weeks exactly today, baby measuring 4-5lbs (not sure if that's small or big if anybody knows?)
It says I have an anterior placenta, if anybody also knows what that is? And also says presentation of baby is cephalic?
But everything is completely fine ❤️

AFAIA, an anterior placenta and a cephalic presentation is the best position to be in for the birth of your baby.

ChlOeWh · 10/09/2020 12:04

Ah that's brill then, does that mean the baby's head is engaged then? Sorry to sound so thick 😩

27andcounting · 10/09/2020 12:05

I think the weight it just where should be at this point and anterior placenta just means it's on your front not your back. I've got an anterior placenta but hasn't caused any issues just where it decided to attach 😊

ChlOeWh · 10/09/2020 12:27

Ohh so I guess the placenta is supposed to be on the back is it rather than the front?

OP posts:
Dogsgowoofwoof · 10/09/2020 17:17

Its just where is happens to attach itself. I had anterior with dd and I’ve got a posterior with this one. The only difference to me has been that I’ve felt movements much easier this time.
