You’re not supposed to sleep on your right hand side while pregnant.
Maybe invest in a good, long pregnancy pillow?

JustFrustrated · 09/09/2020 07:37

Could just be ligament pain as everything stretches. Or referred pain from trapped wind.

Either way, you need to speak to your midwifery team, they can help.

SkyeBarn · 09/09/2020 07:38

Its a myth that you should sleep on your right side. Maybe get a pillow or speak to your midwife on other options.

SkyeBarn · 09/09/2020 07:40

Sorry I mean it's a myth you shouldn't sleep on your right side.

hauntedvagina · 09/09/2020 07:43

If you have any pains or aches that concern you, speak to your midwife.

emma911030 · 09/09/2020 07:47

@SkyeBarn I'm glad you came along I sleep on my right loads cause I've got previous trauma to the left of my pelvis so can't stay on it long lol panicked then!

Advice from both Tommy's and the NHS is that either left or right is fine - as long as you are not on your back. This is from week 28 of pregnancy. Stop scaremongering.

sarahc336 · 09/09/2020 07:50

Yes both sides are safe!! It's probably ligament pain, mine was worse around this time and often worse after periods of lying down and then trying to get up but if your worried just phone the midwife triage number for your area x

User3627290 · 09/09/2020 07:58

Sleeping on either side is fine - it’s sleeping on your back which should be avoided.

I’ve had this too OP. Supporting my bump and legs with pillows helps me.

jorhat · 09/09/2020 08:02

I do use pillow to support, but this time feels like pillow is giving pressing pressure instead of supporting

Sleeping gets increasingly difficult throughout pregnancy as I'm sure you know. Careful positioning of pillows (I found pregnancy pillows too thick) and sheer exhaustion puts me to sleep most nights. Remember it is safe to take paracetamol in pregnancy - might be useful just to take the edge off any pain or discomfort

Pbbananabagel · 09/09/2020 08:22

I was advised that putting a pillow between your ankles as well as your knees and keeping your ankles together Is the best thing to do as will keep your joints aligned correctly

welshladywhois40 · 09/09/2020 09:40

Have you tried a cheese wedge pillow - I find these are the only pillows that help me. I often have pain turning at night if I twist so have been trying not to twist - it's a sharp pain that only resolves by curling in a ball. Is it similar?

jorhat · 09/09/2020 10:05

Yes exactly, turning and twisting hurts and i cant lie on sides for long,i have to change positions and its now getting very uncomfortable,as if heavy pressure on belly or mild pain in lower belly

Pain killers i dont mind but this pain is not like that its more like heaviness, like pillow is pressing and giving you load

Unfortunately, this sounds like a pretty normal experience. It is very difficult to sleep well the bigger your bump gets.
