Second baby, anterior placenta but nothing felt, thought I had a thump once but literally nothing otherwise, messaged midwife today just asking if it was normal and I just got the normal answer of "if any changes in movements, call consultants on ......"

But they wouldn't answer me when I explained I wasn't yet 24 weeks and just wanted to know if it was normal still, doesn't help having anxiety from previous miscarriages and then having reduced movements often with my daughter

I'd call your MAU if you're worried. I went in for reduced movement at 21 weeks as I'd been feeling baby kick from around 18 weeks.
They quickly ran the Doppler over my tummy to listen to baby and were happy so sent me on my way.
Given your history I'd say pop and get yourself checked at the hospital. If anything just to put your mind at rest.
Hope everything is ok

@lockdownpregnancy see thats the thing its not reduced movements at this stage its no movements because I'm yet to feel them 🤦‍♀️ I know the anterior placenta makes it harder for those movements, it just doesn't help to stay calm lol

It’s totally normal with an anterior placenta to not feel movements yet.

lockdownpregnancy · 08/09/2020 21:49

@EllieJai44 I've got an anterior placenta and I've been feeling my baby kick from 18 weeks, but I think I may be the exception as it's usually 24 weeks you start feeling proper kicks and a actual pattern.
I'd still call your MAU at the hospital as if you're anxiety is that bad over it they will have you in to put your mind at rest. They are usually really lovely like that

@EllieJai44 I'm just over 23 weeks with an anterior placenta and haven't felt any movement at all yet!

Like you I was worrying so much about it so I phoned my maternity unit yesterday (as my midwife is on holiday) and they said it's quite normal to feel movement later with AP. They saw me yday to reassure me and listened for a heartbeat and baby was fine!

Try not to worry as chances are all is fine! Did you have your 20 week scan last week? If you did and all was ok I'm sure there's nothing to worry about 😊

EllieJai44 · 08/09/2020 22:45

@H8624 yes scan last week was good, did they say if you still haven't felt movements after 24 weeks if they do any extra monitoring or not?

@EllieJai44 the nurse said if I'm ever worried to come back and they would check Hb again, but I have a midwife appointment in 2 weeks and my MW will check there as well. I don't know what will happen after. Hopefully by then I'll have felt movements, but as long as the heart beat is ok then I'm trying to keep calm! Am going to see what she suggests if I still haven't felt anything by then! I'm sure once baby gets bigger I'll feel those kicks, and you will too 😊

peachypetite · 09/09/2020 05:40

@EllieJai44 I was told at my 20 week scan (anterior placenta) to call if I haven’t felt anything by 24. I think it was about 23 that I started feeling proper movements. Initially it was flutters, not every day, I’m 28 weeks now and it’s much more firm and regular.

H8624 · 17/09/2020 21:42

Just to update you I am 24+3 today and yesterday I started getting a muscle spasm/twitch in my tummy which I have felt several times today so finally think it's kicks!

So don't lose hope it will happen for you :)

RaisinGhost · 17/09/2020 22:14

21 weeks is quite early to expect movement, especially with an anterior placenta.

Mummyinlove09 · 17/09/2020 22:16

I completely understand why you are anxious. I have an anterior placenta and really only started feeling kicks from 24 weeks onwards. Hopes this gives you some comfort Flowers

AlviesMam · 17/09/2020 22:36

Anterior placenta here , I felt no movement until 24 weeks they only became stronger from 32 weeks

Babba2801 · 18/09/2020 00:19

Im 21 weeks and have an anterior placenta too. I felt movement from 18 weeks although I wasnt overly convinced it was movement as i told to expect movement at 24 weeks with an anterior placenta. Seen the consultant after my scan last week who asked if i felt movement yet and i said i wasnt sure and she just said it was fine and to give it a few more weeks.
I know now it definitely is movement but its not a regular pattern, i usually feel the odd thump about 11pm and that's it x

I have an anterior placenta and it's my third pregnancy (didn't have it with my other 2) I didn't feel movements until 24 weeks or so. I'm 37 weeks now and he never stops. It's always worth getting checked if your worried but they did tell me it's normal to with an anterior placenta
