Do I need to take a changing mat to hospital?

Basically that.
We don't have a changing bag or any travel changing mats or anything like that because what with coronavirus we won't be going anywhere for a while. I'm going into hospital at the end of the week and now paranoid that maybe I missed something and we need to get a travel changing mat on next day delivery or something!
Also, nappy sacks. We have none (planning on going reusable once back at home) - what are they for and do we really need them for hospital? Surely they have BINS?

No changing mat needed, I just changed DC on the hospital bed between my legs/in the little cot. I guess you could lay down a muslin if you want to. The hospital staff change the sheets if it gets dirty.

Don't think we bothered with nappy sacks either, there's nappy bins Smile

For hospital you should be fine without nappy bags because they have the yellow waste bins that human contaminated stuff goes in, and you can wrap the nappy shut. But I would definitely recommend a small travel changing mat because of the meconium poo, that goes absolutely everywhere (dd managed to get me, dd and 2 midwives covered!!).

I didn't need a changing mat or nappy bags

No, you don't need a changing mat or nappy bags.

I never took either. They have clinical waste bins for the nappies, and I used a hospital towel as a changing mat.

I took a few flannels to pop under DS bum as I wasn't very practiced at changing nappies and the meconium got everywhere. the policy was to change the babies in their cots, not on the bed at my hospital so it saved the blankets

No I didn’t

i took some pampers disposable changing mats with me. i think they were about £4/5 in boots.

I didn't need a mat or bags in the hospital. It will probably be worth getting a bag and mat though for any times you have to take baby out for instance hospital appointments, jabs and any unexpected trips because little one is unwell. My dd was a very healthy baby but we still ended up at the out of hours gp at 6 weeks.

No mat needed, but one thing we didn't pack which the hospital told us we should have was cotton wool for changing. They gave us some to use but very begrudgingly.

I used an older version of these. They are probably one of the most useful things I bought for my babies, I had several and used them at home as well as out. We put the potty on them and used them at nap time when toilet training.
My youngest is 8 and we still have them, one at home for any visiting babies, the others in the car for muddy/wet bums from the park and to stand on after swimming.

My babies hospital bag was a changing bag so it had one in it and I didn’t use it. Although I probably should of as I changed my baby at 3am and he got meconium all over the bed and over me 🙈
