Hey all

(If you have seen another post exactly like this written by me do ignore that one and respond to this one. I'm trying to get it removed due to too many spelling errors)

Can I go on a fruits, veg, water and nuts diet for a while during my pregnancy? Would this be safe. I know some people say you shouldn't eat nuts during pregnancy however my baby is absolutely healthy and fine and some actually do recommend eating nuts.

I have noticed I have gained quiet a bit of weight and now I'm in the 200 lbs mark. I feel so down about my weight. If I wasn't pregnant I would (yes I know this is risky) usually go on a water diet for a few weeks which contains no food (done my research and have done this before), exercise and watch the weight fall off. I didn't gain it back until I actually got pregnant. I came from a size 10 to a 12-14 then 16.

Honestly I feel disgusted and upset. I can't contact my midwife as she's very useless. I've asked for help with certain things and she hasn't gotten back to me for weeks now. I just feel HUGE and not through pregnancy but fat.

In the past I've tried Pro Anna diets which I can't do now of course, I've tried making my own diet and living off less than 100 calories per day. I used to go on the scales daily as it became routine. If I saw the smallest weight gain I'd be back on my diet, I would even go as far as eaten half an egg. I'm really stressed. I just don't know what to do. Mentally I feel awful.

I feel trapped in my own body. I wear nothing but oversized clothes. Or would wear black to make me look somewhat slimmer than I actually am. My goal is to go back to a size 10. I was much happier and confident. I have no idea what to do.

First, congratulations on the pregnancy. Your body is doing a fabulous thing creating that baby so please just try to focus on that. Have you had eating disorders diagnosed in the past because water diets and pro Anna diets are not considered normal diets in any way. Pro Anna literally stands for pro-anorexia which is a serious mental health disorder. I would say you need to speak to a doctor asap about that as it's definitely not something anyone on here will promote.

As for diets during pregnancy, by all means eat a health balanced diet but nothing extreme, it's not worth the risk to you or your baby.

Your body will change as part of this process but it's completely normal, try to focus on what an amazing job it's doing creating your baby. Like I said before, nobody on here is going to promote extreme dieting during pregnancy and the fact you're considering it is very concerning. You need to raise your thoughts and feelings (and dieting history) with your midwife or a doctor asap.

All the best. X

I’d really recommend you speak to your GP about this, It is really out of the remit of a midwife.
Take care x

I agree they sound like very extreme ways to drop weight regardless of doing this whilst pregnant (which is a no no).
Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, not for all, but your body is doing something amazing give it some credit. Yes you will gain weight, baby weight. Throughout your pregnancy try and eat health, be as active as you can and give yourself some slack. Once you've had the baby, I found being healthy during paid off in the long run. Pregnancy doesn't have to mean eating for the five thousand and gaining lots of weight. Baby weight isn't gained weight.

Hello OP,

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

We're sorry to hijack your thread like this but we just wanted to pop on to echo those Mumsnetters who have mentioned that it's a good idea to seek RL advice and support when it comes to considering this kind of diet.

We hope you don't mind, but we also wanted to share some resources that you might find useful - you can find them by clicking here.
