I'm due mine next week when I will be exactly 39 weeks, I know baby will be full term but I'm worried about breathing difficulties etc, will everything be ok?

I have an elcs booked for a few weeks when I will be exactly 39weeks too.

Crylittlesister · 06/09/2020 09:51

I was 38+2 by their dates. Dd was fine but little and needed to feed very frequently.

mynameiscalypso · 06/09/2020 09:54

39+1. DS was quite quiet when he came out and they were a little concerned but he was fine within a couple of minutes. There had been absolutely zero signs that he was coming anytime soon so I reckon left to how own devices, he would have stayed out for a few more weeks so the general conclusion was he was just a bit shocked by his sudden entrance into the world. After 5 mins, they reassessed him and he was perfect and has gone from strength to strength ever since. The word 'robust' is used most frequently to describe him!

39+5 but that was due to there being more electives than usual for some reason that week
Their aim was 39+1

schmalex · 06/09/2020 11:01

Mine were planned for 39 weeks but I didn't get that far and had them at 38+2 and 38+5. No breathing difficulties at all.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 06/09/2020 11:05

Mine scheduled for 39+2

Shelley54 · 06/09/2020 11:17

38+5. I had the option of any date from 37+5 but left him a week longer and picked a day that worked best for DS1 and childcare.

MySaladDays75 · 06/09/2020 11:19

38 + 4 - no issues

Cooper88 · 06/09/2020 11:19

I was 38 weeks exactly. No issues at all with DS. I stayed in for 2 nights, but that was my choice as I had had bad pnd the time before and just wanted the extra support.

Icloud54 · 06/09/2020 23:21

Thank you for the replies! It's reassuring, I'm sure all will be fine

I had my section at 37+2 and my son was absolutely fine. Don't worry 😊

ShyTown · 07/09/2020 09:25

38+6 as the doctor didn’t like doing electives at the weekend. All fine except for slight jaundice.

user1493413286 · 07/09/2020 09:27

39+2 days; it was all fine but they also said it’s not unusual for babies to need a little rub down and not to panic if that’s the case

PopcornPugs · 07/09/2020 09:29

My twins were born by elcs at 36+1, obviously wouldn’t have chosen that time but I had preeclampsia and they had restricted growth so out they came. Neither had any problems and didn’t need any special care.

Sally7645 · 07/09/2020 09:33

My first I had at 39 weeks, baby was huge- chubby and healthy. No breathing issues at all

My most recent baby I had at 40+1 and she was nearly 1lb smaller which was a surprise. Again no breathing issues all went swimmingly x

MissisBee · 07/09/2020 09:35

Elective at 39+1. Slightly snuffly and her ears were a bit mucusy, which meant it took them a few goes to do the hearing test, but absolutely fine. My son was an emergency at 33+6. I'd had the steroids a few days before to mature his lungs. He was also fine with no breathing difficulties.

FilthyforFirth · 07/09/2020 09:40

First baby 38 weeks exactly. I had to have steriod injections to help with lung development but he was born big and healty, absolutely no problems. Was able to take him home 2 days later.

This time round I am booked in for exactly 39 weeks. As I am suffering from HG again I would have loved 38 but 39 is the earliest they will allow.

Roomba · 07/09/2020 09:44

I was 35+6 with my 'semi elective' caesarian (that's what it said on my discharge sheet - I suppose asking me if I wanted a section or we'd both likely die technically counts as 'elective' then!). DS had no breathing issues at all and I wasn't given steroids beforehand (I weas told they only gave them before 34 weeks, things may have changed in the last 15 years though). He did need special care but that was due to low temp, low blood sugar and jaundice.

My second caesarian was definitely elective and was at 38 weeks. Absolutely fine, no breathing or any other issues. 38 weeks is classed as full term, so unless there are any other issues involved you are both likely to be absolutely fine.

FilthyforFirth · 07/09/2020 09:47

Yes I was surprised I was made to have the injections @roomba. My understanding is 37 weeks is actually full term? I also cant understand why they wont let me go at 38 this time round. I am at a different hospital, and in general they seem more strict..
