Hi,

Has anyone been able to get measured for a maternity bra during Coronavirus?

No - I picked up a cheap tape measure and put my calculations into boob or bust.

Bravissimo are doing social distanced fittings!

Oneandabean · 05/09/2020 17:44

Bravissimo did mine last weekend, great to finally have a bra that fits

Cobbsgirl92 · 05/09/2020 18:49

I was in jojo mama Bebe last week and the lady told me they are doing bra fittings now.
I haven’t had my done as I found out how to measure online and got my own a few months ago but if I need a re measure I will probably go there.

MaverickDanger · 05/09/2020 19:22

Just a word of warning about JoJo Maman - their website guidance follows the old, incorrect way of measuring (adding 4/5 to the under bust measurement) so you will end up with an ill-fitting bra.

Using that way, it tells me that I should buy a 38E bra when I am currently wearing a 34HH.

Boob or bust is a much better calculator.

Another vote for Bravissimo. I got fitted a few hours ago for a nursing bra and it's so nice to be fully covered and comfortable. I tried going M&S and trying dozens on and none fit.. I've apparently gone from a 38E to a 36HH

Victoria Secrets are also doing fittings if you just need to be sized

Can I ask what people do about buying bras in their first trimester, when boobs are starting to grow? Feels early to get maternity bras (as many of them are also nursing bras, plus am worried they'll grow more and then won't fit). Any thoughts? Thanks!

Manrita · 06/09/2020 08:21

Thanks for the tips everyone. I was going to use the JoJo Maman Bébé website to measure myself but think I will just go to Bravissimo instead Smile

@thewallisblue I bought bra extenders from Amazon in my first trimester. My boobs also got bigger and my bras felt uncomfortable but it felt too early to buy maternity bras

I had a range of sizes already which covered my first trimester. My boobs are the first place I gain and lose weight so I got to dig out some old favourites!

Once I outgrew them I switched to bralets. In M & S they have different ranges for different cup sizes and these last into my third trimester when I switched to basic nursing bras.

Babyshine2020 · 06/09/2020 16:17

Just a heads up I went to JoJo on Friday specifically for bras and my local one isn't offering a measuring service so it may be best to call first

PlanBea · 06/09/2020 19:42

@thewallisblue @Manrita I had the exact same question! I'm an awkward size to start with and Bravissimo don't have any maternity bras in my normal size never mind with the changes happening, so I really am not looking forward to hunting for bras!

Manrita · 12/09/2020 04:41

Just wanted to give you all an update. I finally went shopping yesterday. M&S have stopped their bra fitting service during coronavirus but their advisor told me to go up one back size and cup size. She told me to just buy some standard non wired bras

OP posts:
peonyrose87 · 12/09/2020 05:38

@Manrita I went to bravissimo and had to go up two back sizes and two cup sizes.

MindyStClaire · 12/09/2020 05:53

You don't need to wear non wired bras, just buy normal bras and make sure they fit properly and the wire isn't pressing on any breast tissue. Although that is harder when you can't get measured, I grant you! I don't trust marks for bra measuring at all.

Manth84 · 01/10/2020 11:59

At what point do we start changing bras? I'm only 7weeks but I've got an app that tells me I should be buying maternity bras already. Don't know where to start! Are sports bras any good for now? (I read we shouldn't wear wired bras) I'm so new to all this 🙈

Superscientist · 01/10/2020 16:14

Wear what ever you find comfortable. I was in my regular bras until 16 weeks (under wired)
If you need to buy new consider the cost because you might grow out quickly if you buy early in your pregnancy. I opted for bralets initially and the nursing bras in s/m/l as these covered broader range of sizes and were easier to guess which size I needed and shopping was difficult at the time (during full lockdown).

DiabeticFirstBaby · 01/10/2020 17:29

@Manth84 Yes I feel the same, my app is saying go and buy bras too. It's like a different secret world we are all suddenly in!
I'm still fine in my normal bras but they are growing. Might do a trip to M&S once i start to get uncomfortable, guess i'll have to measure myself though!

Manth84 · 01/10/2020 19:24

Thank you guys. It defo is a whole new world! It's such a nuisance that covid won't allow us to try on before we buy. Il wait it out a touch longer and see. May get a bralet or sports bra if I get uncomfortable but don't wants to spend too much if I'm going to keep getting bigger 🥴

LoveSunshine01 · 02/10/2020 10:45

Hey, I'm in week 28 and have worn unwired non maternity bras throughout so far. Theyre great cos they flex with my size and are super super comfy while still giving shape and hiding the nips. I actually got them from primark and they have been ace (wouldn't buy my normal bras there usually).

I'll get some nursing bras too, but not sure when to do that given size may change...

Manth84 · 20/10/2020 14:45

Sainsbury's do a great range of non wired bras and crop tops!
