Dr Surgery said a doctor does not need to confirm my pregnancy?

Hello!

Yesterday I took 5 pregnancy tests, different brands, different times of the day and positive.

I called Dr this morning and she said that a doctor no longer confirms pregnancy and if I’ve had a positive test then I am pregnant. Took my details and Midwife will be in touch when I am 8-10weeks.

Is this correct? Is this due to covid? This will be my first pregnancy so have no previous experience. Should I contact somewhere else to get a pregnancy confirmed? I feel like I don’t believe it until a professional agrees..... x

@BessieBye I don't think I can link to it but if you search May 2021 it should come up. We have a Facebook group too Smile

OP even if you are high risk they don't bother doing anything until around 11/12 weeks. Mainly as the risk of miscarriage is high until then so there isn't any point.

If they then have to do various blood tests due to age, ethnic background and/or medical history they should deal with them very quickly. So you should know if there are any issues within a week of having a blood test. Make sure you give them your mobile number and answer any private/withheld numbers during the week following any blood tests.

Generally no news is good news but if you know you have issues due to ethnic background and/or medical history and they don't contact you within a week - it does unfortunately happen - you need to contact the midwife team asap.

Your GP even if they are part of your antenatal care plan, so see you during your pregnancy, can't help you with pregnancy matters. They are supposed to help you if you have any other illnesses. If they refuse to take yourself off to A&E or minor injuries clinic.

I found to contact the community midwife team I had to ring every 5 minutes between 9am - 10am as that was the only time someone was in the office. To avoid chasing them make sure you make all antenatal appointments for any health care practitioner as far in advance as you can.

That was exactly the case when I was pregnant with DS21 and DS20! The tests you use are as accurate as the doctors use so no need to double check.

Zakana · 03/09/2020 13:42

Same as when I fell pregnant with DS22 and DD18, and I couldn’t believe it when I didn’t get a certificate or at least a 21 gun salute either!

The tests are so accurate now, the surgery only need to be informed you are pregnant by yourself in order to arrange your booking in appointments with the midwives and scans etc.

Congratulations 🥳!

I've had 3. Never had a dr confirm any of them 🤷🏼‍♀️

sqirrelfriends · 03/09/2020 13:55

Congratulations op.

It's weird isn't it? I didn't get a matb1 form until I was about 24 weeks pregnant. It was brilliant, I felt like I finally had proof!

Spinksy9 · 03/09/2020 17:03

@BessieBye where we live we contact the hospital/ delivery suite you want to give birth in. We no longer go straight to the GP as its all self referral. I did however tell my GP when I needed anti sickness tablets and they just double checked i had contacted the midwife and was taking my folic acid x

@BessieBye

And *@ThatDamnScientist* thank you ❤️ I dunno where I’ve been! Lol xx
Lol, bizarrely wirh dd1(17) and I did have to confirm with the dr!
TitsOutForHarambe · 03/09/2020 21:29

I'm in Australia and here you go to the GP as standard as soon as you find out. They do bloods to confirm the pregnancy as well as check your nutritional.health and that you don't have any STDs, etc. Then you have what's called an early dating scan at around 6 or 7 weeks to confirm a heartbeat and that the baby is in the right place.

All of this is free from Medicare.

BessieBye · 03/09/2020 22:46

@TitsOutForHarambe oh sounds like it’s very different in Oz than UK! Just going by what these ladies above have shared in their comments
All of our antenatal care is on the NHS, so similar boat; very lucky!! Xx

It’s a very strange feeling the 1st time you see them on scan. Totally magical, helps confirm everything. Congratulations on your pregnancy 😍

CoalCraft · 04/09/2020 09:43

I was surprised too OP, thought the Dr would confirm before assigning midwife etc. Seemed but they do just believe you and the tests!

CoalCraft · 04/09/2020 09:44

*seemed weird

BessieBye · 04/09/2020 10:05

@CoalCraft yeah my DP still isn’t 100% getting excited yet 😂 I’ve been trying to hit him with the facts.. for example I’m now at 7 positive pregnancy tests !! I am not taking any more, I just wanted to see this morning that it had got darker.. and it had. So the pg tests are getting locked away now!!! Or I’ll become obsessed lol.

And thank you so much @BeMorePacific xx
