Being signed off sick

Has anyone been signed off sick with pregnancy related symptoms? I’m 7 weeks and feeling awful - severe nausea, occasional vomiting, fatigue etc.

I requested a call back from my GP - will they just sign me off if I asked them? And offer me medication?

At that point my gp offered me medication or being signed off sick or both.

I took the medication and the occasional day off sick - not enough days off in hindsight. I was prescribed cyclizine which worked for me if I took it as soon as I woke up even before sitting up.

I was signed off for four weeks without even asking for it... wanted meds instead. Turns out I felt so so rough because I was really dehydrated. Still don't feel great, but upping the fluids helped a bit.

I was signed off for two months and I think could've been signed off for much longer without the GP questioning it if I'd wanted it. They signed me off two weeks at a time and each time I called back for another note and more anti sickness pills I got both without much questioning.
Cyclizine worked well for me.

I was signed off sick for 3 weeks with similar at about 6/7 weeks - my nausea was so awful that I couldn't move let alone work. The GP said they were happy to sign me off, but refused to consider medication. A couple of weeks later when I had my booking call with the midwife she called the GP and gave them an earful about not giving me medication that was perfectly safe when I needed it. They then prescribed me cyclizine which has helped to take the edge off the nausea. I'm now 11 weeks and feeling much better, and having a phased return to work. I would say definitely request to be signed off, and also don't be afraid to push for medication if you feel you need it. If you felt this crap and weren't pregnant there's no way you would be expected to just get on with it. Sorry, little bit of a rant there!

Good for her! I'd have been fucking livid. I wouldn't have remotely coped with my pregnancy without cyclizine. I weighed 100lbs when I got pregnant and was 90 by 8 weeks. If I hadn't had cyclizine helping me I dread to think what my weight would have dropped to. Few things piss me off more than drs thinking it's just a little nausea and refusing to prescribe safe medication that is on the NHS list of recommended treatment for pregnancy related sickness!

I was similar to you op with nausea and fatigue. Only occasional vomiting but the nausea and fatigue were crippling. I asked my gp to sign me off and they gave me 2 weeks.
I'd say definitely take the time off if you feel like you need to.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Thanks for the replies, my GP prescribed Cyclizine, only taken one so far with no effect, I suppose they need time to work. He wasn’t very sympathetic but said give them a go and if not, ring back for a sick note.

I’m WFH but feel so bad I can barely manage. When I turn my laptop off I get into bed!
