Hey ladies this is my first baby my Midwife as put me down as low risk but still worried about developing this condition my mum did not have it with me while she was pregnant so I guess that's good but I wonder is there anyway of lowering your risks as for diet , exercise or anything (I need to stay off the Internet I see soo much negative stuff about pregnancy and people's experiences which is literally terrifying me) x

What exactly about pre-eclampsia is scaring you?

If it helps, I had pre-eclampsia. I was a bit higher risk than you, due to BMI and my 20 week scan picking up a borderline high uterine PI. But other than the BP, urine and bloods saying I had pre-eclampsia, I was otherwise symptomless. I felt perfectly fine and healthy. Baby was very well grown and was perfectly healthy and happy (and still is!). The pre-eclampsia was picked up at 36 weeks, but as baby and I were healthy, and my blood pressure was being kept under control with medication, we decided to wait until I was 37 weeks and full term before inducing. Induction was slow to start, but once I was on the drip it proceeded just fine and I delivered with no intervention.

Tbh though, pre-eclampsia is believed to be caused by placenta issues. Nothing you can really do to prevent it. Though eating healthily and exercising regularly can never go amiss.

@AlwaysBelieve19 please try not to worry (says the biggest worrier ever! Lol)
If you don’t have any risk factors then it’s prob quite unlikely you will develop it. If you’re worried keep an eye out on the signs - headaches, visual disturbances, swelling, sudden weight gain.
What I would say is - if for some reason you are considered to be at risk of it, you will be very well looked after. My mum had pre eclampsia when she had me - due to this I have weekly appointments, I’ve actually had an overnight admission as my BP went up, not super high more just elevated but due to family history they are really being cautious.
If you have any concerns about it make sure you call your midwife.
You could always buy a BP monitor for home, I have one as I was advised to get one to keep an eye but it really does give peace of mind as well. It was on here I picked up the elevated levels which caused me to be admitted.
