I've been reading baby books, forums, websites etc and there is so much conflicting information out there; e.g no you can't eat packet ham or yes you can eat packet ham or yes you can have runny poached egg or no you can't have runny poached egg.

Please could you advise on what you definitely have to avoid and any foods you been flexible with?

FYI - I don't eat fish Smile

Thank you x

I would recommend the book “expecting better” - it outlines a lot of the research behind the advice so you can come to your own conclusions more easily about what risks apply to you

I always had the NHS website open on my phone for the guidelines around food

You absolutely can have packet h, and runny eggs if they have the lion mark (which is pretty much all of them).

As PP said, just look at the NHS website and it's really straightforward.

Certainly ignore anything American - they have much lower food safety standards so their advice is different.

Just use the nhs website. A lot of the info you’ll find online applies to other countries with different food standards.

NHS website, couldn't be simpler

As a general rule avoid alcohol, high caffeine products (occasional cup of tea or chocolate is ok), unpasteurised foods like soft cheeses and milk. Be careful with processed packaged foods like ham, pate etc once open (generally fine when first opened. Raw seafood and certain fish which isn't applicable as you don't eat it. Be careful reheating foods, but you should be anyway. I was told no nuts but that's no longer advised

I follow NHS guidance only. There are so many opinions on what's right or not and I'm happy to just use the NHS info.
