Hi I'm 37+3 today and I'm fed up. Overnight I get woken up every HALF HOUR by the pins and needles in my hands and arms, I'm not sleeping on my arms or anything, it's often my top arm that's got the pins and needles! I get relief if I lie on my back but obviously that's a no no, does anyone know why this is happening and how I can actually get some sleep 😭 never had this with sons pregnancy and it's making me depressed because I just can't sleep. By the morning it's so painful that my arms are aching very badly. Only remedy seems to be getting up and about, which isn't much good as the idea is getting some sleep! I get about 2 hours at the beginning of the night before it starts up

google carpal tunnel, common in pregnancy, gets better after birth. You'll need to experiment with how you place your arms to reduce it.

This. Mine went numb but with pins and needles up to my elbows. It was shit.

You can buy splints online or from the pharmacy to wear at night which should help!

BellaNutella88 · 31/08/2020 12:52

I had this, carpal tunnel. It got so bad that if I raised my hands for any longer than a few seconds I lost feeling completely. I bought wrist splints in boots and it did help a bit. I wore them at night too. After I gave birth it cleared up completely after the swelling went down. Back to normal now ! Awful symptom during pregnancy though, I feel for you.

Currently suffering terribly with CTS and have been since week 27 - now week 34. Unfortunately nothing has worked for me :( so just had to manage through the discomfort! I have to sleep with my bedside drawer out so I can rest my arm on it. Shaking my arm and hand around usually helps me in the middle of night when they go completely numb. It’ll go after birth though! So not long to go :)

I had this starting really early on when I was pregnant and still get it now (6 months postpartum). I was convinced I had a neurological disorder! I think it's just carpal tunnel though

Carpal tunnel. I've got it in both hands and arms and it's super painful. Should go away after baby is born but buy yourself some wrist splints and wear them as much as you can and when you go to bed.
Mine are an absolute god send!

Thank you so much everyone for your responses! I'm going to try and get hold of some wrist supports today, pharmacist is unfortunately shut today due to bank holiday but I'll drive miles to get some relief!!! Does it need to be more like a splint or a compression thing? If I can get hold of bandages I could probably splint it for the night until I can get hold of proper ones?

I know many have suggested carpel tunnel but I also always get pins and needles and numbing up and down both arms and it's always due to general fluid build up in my shoulders/back putting pressure on nerves -affecting the whole arm. Sleeping slightly tilted up on several pillows helps me.

BellaNutella88 · 31/08/2020 16:22

Boots sell them, that’s where I got mine. Hope they help!

kkr168 · 31/08/2020 18:42

Sounds like carpel tunnel, I've had the same this pregnancy. I've been wearing a wrist splint to bed, it's really helped, rarely get pins & needles now

lockdownpregnancy · 31/08/2020 19:47

OP I got mine from Amazon. Around £8 each. They are really expensive in boots or the pharmacy and they are exactly the same

lockdownpregnancy · 31/08/2020 19:48

Forgot to add, proper wrist splints too not just a compression sock or anything

ChampooPapi · 31/08/2020 19:54

@Crumbsinthecarpet you've got gestational carpel tunnel, it'll go when you've had the baby so probably not worth getting the support things, though they help as they keep your wrists straight rather than curving inwards (which is what most humans naturally do in their sleep, even if they are not aware of it). It's a bit of a mare but will go away once the baby is born ☺️

Crumbsinthecarpet · 01/09/2020 10:40

The tubigrip and bandage on the wrists meant I slept with no pins and needles and very little pain! Thank you all!
