When will the morning sickness stop?

Hi

I started ms at 6 weeks and am now 11+ 3. I'm sick in the mornings and then have severe nausea all day and can't eat much as everything makes me feel queasy. I'm off work for the time being but it's really getting me down now. When's it likely to stop?

some say around 14 ish weeks, others 12, and for some it carries on right the way through!

Hope you feel better soon.

LadyTophamHatt · 05/10/2007 11:47

well, in a text book it'll say at about 12 weeks but in reality it can go on throughout the whole pregnancy.

For me, the trick was to eat tiny amounts, almost constantly. I was rarely sick butthe feeling of being sick at any moment followed me around for weeks, all day too.

Its a catch 22 situation. You'll feel better if you eat but because you feel sick you don't want to eat.....

You have my sympathy, you poor thing.

BandofMutantMonsters · 05/10/2007 11:48

Mine went at about 14 weeks with both. But if I ate or drank the wrong things it could make me feel ill in the same nauseous way.

TheMaskedPosTERROR · 05/10/2007 11:53

mine has pretty much totally gone
Absolutely fine during the day - but still slightly in the evening (later rather than earlier). I am 14 weeks today.

Hope it calms down/stops soon for you - mine did start getting a bit better from the 11 week mark

x

TMP I didn't know you were pg, congrats

hi macaco, if it started at 6 weeks it may be an indicator that it is hyperemesis, rather than just morning sickness. I currently have hyperemesis for the 2nd time and my vomiting started at 5+6. I would say realistically, that at 14 weeks, it is only a maybe that it will ease (not go altogether). At 20 weeks, mine definately eased and the vomiting was then irregular until 30 weeks when it did actually stop.

I am so sorry you are suffering and totally empathise. It is rare you meet someone in RL that is sick as badly so it can get you down. Try not to think about work too much - I was off sick for months, but every week I thought it might ease and I'd be able to go back. This time, I am SAHM.

You never know, you might be lucky and it might go soon, but probably better not to pin your hopes on that.

macaco · 05/10/2007 12:06

apart from yesterday the previous 3 days were slighty better in terms of nausea and I really got my hopes up it was easing off. Then yesterday was back to the constant I'm going to puke any second feeling. Work is being fine about it and doctor too...just off to get signed off next week too. It's just making me feel so miserable. Even the foods I can stomach (not many) I'm getting sick of now. and i appreciate that others have it much worse. I'd be unlucky for it not to stop by 14 weeks wouldn't I?....worried face.

thanks BoM (liking the Halloween guise btw)

macaco - I too had a few good days at about 11 weeks and thought I was past the worst, only for it to come back for a week or two - so fingers crossed it will be getting better for you from now on.

BandofMutantMonsters · 05/10/2007 12:19

Like wise TMP

macaco · 05/10/2007 13:16

oh crokky, your post scared me! I too had thought about hg (read the website) but I don't actually puke much at all. Usually 2 or max 3 times in the morning but manage to keep lunch down. The reason I'm off work is the overwhelming nausea as I work in the afternoons, not mornings. It's actually the nausea that I find most difficult to cope with. I'm worried too about being off work for weeks on end, although so far they have been really good about it.

sorry macaco I didn't mean to scare you, my post was a bit blunt

If your work have been good about it so far, that is a good sign and hopefully they will continue to support you. You will get through it!

macaco · 06/10/2007 11:13

I'm amazed by how shit it makes me feel, just being nauseous. I feel so sorry for anyone who actually ends up in hospital. I can't believe it's been going on for nearly six weeks and could go on for a lot longer yet. I think this child will be an only child!

Poor you.
I felt really awfull till about 13 weeks (sick a couple of times a day and queasy all day). Then it started to come and go a bit and by the end of 14 weeks I was fine! Now 18 weeks and I really have almost forgotten how horrible it was - so you won't feel like this forever!
Nibbling plain biscuits constantly was a great help as was hot water with a squeeze of lemon in it - not that I could eat anything else.
Hope you feel better soon!

macaco · 06/10/2007 11:47

Hi piggyp. You sound just like me. I'm 11+4 so I'm desperately hoping against hope that the end is in sight. Yesterday was awful. I find dry crackers and COLD water with a squeeze of lemon, was about all I managed to keep down yesterday!

I got to the point where I was making myself sick because I felt so ill and it did make me feel better for a few mins then I'd be so ill again. Best thing i did was have 4 days in bed without moving (unless for a wee), my partner and mum did everything for me. When I got out of bed on the last day, I felt much better, then since then I've felt better every day!! I'm only nearly 9 weeks!!! I'm a little ill of an evening but nothing compared to before!!

Try it if you're lucky enough to have lots of people around to help out.

sideways · 06/10/2007 11:50

I'm 26 weeks and still waiting...

I did end up in hospital earlier on and comapred to that I am a lot better, but still have that constant feeling of sickness.

Hope yours ends soon.

piggyp · 06/10/2007 14:21

Don't forget that only people with a bad experience are likely to post here!

tryingtoleave · 10/10/2007 08:22

16 weeks for me, after that I felt a bit queasy in the morning but it was manageable.

BetsyBoop · 10/10/2007 09:06

mine stopped (mostly) at about 20wks both times

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear

moominsmummy · 10/10/2007 10:43

agree with crokky that it's possibly hyperemesis - I too thought I was getting better last week (10 wks) but have beem worse than ever last few days
even puked so violently yesterday that I peed myself not good when i've only got 2 pairs of trousers i can get in at the mo - it definitely put me off thoughts of returning to work - rushing off to toilets to puke is one thing but returning with wet trousers is another!
hope everyone feels better soon
must say though this thread has cheered me up - misery loves company and all that

macaco · 10/10/2007 11:18

I don't actually think it is hyperemesis. I'm not sick very often. The nausea is bad but I actually think there's a lot of wind in there making me feel ill. I think I'm unlucky enough to have monstrous ms but I don't know that having read all the info I'd classify it as hg. Doesn't help me feel any better though. Did have quite a good day yesterday apart from the worst headache I've ever had. I feel better now I'm 12 weeks cos I think each week I get closer to the possibility of it stopping.
