Stretch Mark Prevention!

Hello,

I am still early on at only 10 weeks but just starting to plan ahead. I'm looking at getting a cream or oil or something to help prevent stretch marks. I know I will end up with some anyway as I have some from simple weight gain in the past, but if I can try and reduce the amount then great! This is my first pregnancy so not used much before. Does anyone have any recommendations. I've looked online but so many mixed reviews and I'm sceptical about trusting articles so hoping to get actual human recommendations haha.

I know it won't be too much of an issue just yet but I want to get some so I can get into a routine of using it each day. Any other tips for this?

Thanks!

I had no stretch marks until the last couple of weeks with my first. I thought I'd gotten away with it.

I’ve had 2 children 18 months apart and now pregnant with the 3rd, not a single stretch mark. I was a size 8 before each pregnancy and expanded A LOT by the end! I just used good old johnsons baby oil, rubbed it in once a day on my belly, bum and thighs. Someone told me years ago their mum did the same with johnsons baby oil and didn’t have a single mark so I thought it was worth a go. My mum had 3 children and looks like a roadmap, hers are still terrible 27 years after she had her last baby so it’s definitely not great genetics that stopped me getting them.

There's nothing you can apply to the skin that will stop them, but keeping your bump moisturised can only help. Any decent moisturiser and drinking plenty of water is your best bet. And genetics- my DM, DTwin and I don't have any, and we all had zero maintenance regime and huge bumps. Mum especially, for obvious reasons Grin

I used cream about 3 times in pregnancy. I dont have a single stretch mark.

Totally genetics
First kid religiously moisturised with bio oil , coconut oil and baby balm second pregnancy was twins and had 1 year old to look after, far too exhausted to worry about moisturising and got pretty massive, not one stretch mark from either pregnancy.

36+3 and no marks so far 🤞🤞, been using Palmers the whole way through and at 30 weeks was given some Sanctuary stretch mark oil so put both on together now in the hope they stay away!

indemMUND · 26/08/2020 23:41

You can't avoid them if they happen. I used creams and oils religiously. Got to 34 weeks and bam, roadmap of the USA. Shiny little silver marks 9 years later. I'm short and slim, staying toned helps but there's no getting rid.

I did some research about this with my first pregnancy and ultimately if your going to get them you will get them regardless as it's a genetic thing rather than a 'not doing anything to prevent them' issue I believe or something like that x

Hatscats · 27/08/2020 09:29

I’ve just been using normal moisturiser and ok so far, 32 weeks, see what happens near the end though 😂

It's more about your genetics than creams. I think it's the massage that may help rather than the creams. Don't put on excess weight is the best advice. Ask the mw what an ideal weight gain is and stick to it.
