Hi.
I have tried looking on the internet but have had conflicting advice.
I'm 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant, found out last week and it's still a bit of a shock.......
Anyway, I work in a public facing role as a vet receptionist. We do have screens up, but people are still walking in without face masks on or they will stand around the corner of the screen so there is no protection between us and the client.....,, the best one to date is, removing the mask (if they had the sense to wear one in the first place) and then stick their head thru the hole in the screen 🤦‍♂️😂🤷‍♀️
Anyway, being 40 and pregnant has suddenly rammed me in a high risk category for so many reasons.
I obviously can't work from home either, was just wondering what ur experiences were while working in a public facing role during this pandemic x

Hey. There is actually no extra risk for you unless you have other health issues? In the third trimester I would be more cautious (as I am) as lung capacity is reduced but just do what York's doing already for the moment. Also tell employer even tho it's earlier as they may have a different opinion and do all they can to help

Do you have any other health issues OP?
If not you are not high risk until the 3rd trimester and you can continue to work until 28 weeks.
Congratulations on your pregnancy x

Also make sure you have a risk assessment at work re covid and pregnancy

Congratulations! Star

I’m 19 weeks and work in a public facing role too. I have been on furlough since March- was due to go back last week but due to being asthmatic I’m remaining on furlough until that ends and then going onto medical suspension until 4 weeks before due date when maternity leave will begin.

You’re allowed to work in the first and second trimester unless you have any underlying conditions.

Agree with PP to get a risk assessment done at work to make sure everything is being done to keep you and baby safe.

Only until 28? I am 31 weeks currently and am still working in my public facing role at Lidl.. should I not be?

I’m glad I found this thread. Congratulations on your pregnancy OP.
I’m currently 3 weeks pregnant following IVF. (I’m also 40!) Our first attempt last year sadly ended in an early miscarriage. I have been off sick from work for several weeks and prior to that had 2 weeks off self isolating as per the guidelines before the procedure.
My GP has been very supportive and understanding about signing me off so far. My concern is that I don’t really know when would be safe to go back to work. I work in a supermarket and it’s very physical work but they will be able to make some adjustments so that I can do lighter duties. But I also worry about being around so many people and the Covid risks.
I feel guilty about being off work but physically I don’t feel great (I think due to the IVF meds I have to take) and worry about being able to manage when I do go back to work.
My main concerns are that I am very early stages and I want to feel like I am doing everything I can to stay safe and well. I don’t have any other health issues though so it sounds like it should be okay for me to go back to work soon. It’s just that fear isn’t it, especially until I can get past the milestone of the 12 week scan.

Congratulations!!!
I’m 28 weeks pregnant and in a public facing role . My company is putting me on furlough after this week though . There are no major risks working pregnant at the moment and it’s considered “safe” ( as safe as anyone else during a pandemic ). I’m not too worried myself however I completely understand how this situation can be stressful . Speak to your manager if you feel your workplace isn’t safe .

I’m 19 weeks and in a public facing role since 8 weeks when I was brought back from furlough. Once you tell your workplace they have to do a risk assessment on you to make sure everything is safe for you and baby so probably worth getting that done as soon as you feel comfortable telling your workplace
