Swimming?

Our local pool re-opens in September, I swam and did aquanatal althrough my last pregnancy and really miss it... But is it just a really risky way to potentially catch Corona virus? Am currently 12 weeks. Just wondering what other pregnant ladies are thinking as pools re-open x

In the pool... chlorine... am sure you’d be fine. Just limit your time in the changing rooms I’d have thought? And practice good hygiene re: hand washing etc.

I wanted to go swimming during my pregnancy (currently 35 weeks) and I haven't gone as I think it's just too risky, buts my personal opinion.
I definitely won't be going so close to my due date. Shame really as it's so good for you during pregnancy!
If you're comfortable then do go, but it's a big no from me

Changing rooms are a tricky thing.... to be honest with you, even DH isn't going back to the gym until af least baby is out. And he had knee surgery a couple of months before lockdown, swimming would be nice exercise.

My local pool has recently re opened and I went for the first time last week. I’m 23 weeks at the moment and I am so glad I went.
Not only was the swimming beneficial for my aches and pains it was so relaxing.
My centre was managed extremely well, no more then 20 in the pool at one time. You pre book sessions and this can be used for track and trace also. Separate entrance and exit for changing areas, one way walking system etc it was just so well organised I felt as safe as possible.
I was nervous about going but I decided I’d go with DH and see how I felt and now we both decided that the positives for me outweigh the negatives.
They also ask that you come ready changed in your swim kit and everyone has to shower with soap before entering the pool.
In between each swim session is a gap for clearing the changing rooms and in the middle of the day the pool is closed for extra cleaning.

Everyone is different but I’d suggest at least finding out some more info before you make a decision as centres are doing all they can to make it as safe as possible.

@Cobbsgirl92 your pool sounds great! I think I will ring ours and see if they have the same safety measures. X

I would guess that the risk from swimming is even less than popping to the shops.

When the mental and physically benefit of doing something outweighs the risk, then do it.

I second what @MonChoufleur123 says! Went back swimming last week too and similar measures in place. One way system into the pool, have to arrive ‘swim ready’ and no access to changing rooms. I figure that walking into a swimming pool, dipping myself in chlorine then walking out was minimal risk (when compared with something like grocery shopping!). Really enjoyed going back, felt good for mind and body to be doing something!

Our local pool has opened & I've been alone for a nice quiet relaxing swim & I've taken my 2 year old dd. Currently 20 weeks pregnant & totally agree with above post saying that the physical & mental benefits outweigh the risk!!

I really want to swim but on top of covid fears I found many studies suggesting chlorine in pool water is bad for pregnant women and their babies and thinking they probably dump even more chlorine into the pools now, I decided to avoid it. Really sad though as I'd love to swim.

I live abroad so our club pool is outdoors. I go with my togs under my clothes and try to dry off as much as I can but just throw clothes on and go home and change. It's not a big deal tbh.
The pool is fine re covid but our change rooms are closed presently.
