Sorry if this is really moany, I just don't know what the solution is Sad

I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and have been struggling with a trapped nerve in my back caused by pregnancy meaning it's really painful to stand (moving about is fine). On top of that the heat combined with the requirement to wear a mask in lots of places has really left me struggling. This ended up today with me queuing for 15 minutes in a shop and almost passing out and they then had to go get me a chair until I settled back down.

I just don't know what the answer is - is anyone else struggling with all the queuing and mask-wearing? I feel like some exceptions should be made for pregnant women or others who struggle to stand for any length of time. I can't buy everything online so still need to do some shopping.

Personally I can't see any reason why pregnancy should mean exemption from mask wearing. If anything it makes me more keen to wear one myself and for people around me to wear them, to protect me and my baby from getting it.

NelliePig · 24/08/2020 19:40

I had to wear a mask in a heatwave at like 40 weeks pregnant and when I was 10 days overdue still. Think yourself lucky your still relatively early.. It sucks, but better than getting it and having a prem baby and c section 🙈

foxyroxyy · 24/08/2020 20:19

ThanksSorry op. If it's making you ill then you should take it off when you need too. You know what's best for you baby. If you don't feel well s/he might not feel great either.

Yorkshirelass251 · 24/08/2020 20:36

@foxyroxyy thank you. Appreciate everyone is different and others have had to experience this further along in their pregnancy. I just faint quite regularly anyway when I'm not pregnant (all been checked over) and I think it's making the dizziness I sometimes experience worse. Thank you for your kind reply though, I'll just take it easy.

Exactly. People think just because they managed everyone can. Life isn't always like that. We're all different. Best of luck

ShirleyPhallus · 24/08/2020 20:43

Do take it easy OP. Pregnancy made me very dizzy and nauseous anyway.

Where are you queuing for? I haven’t been to a shop for absolutely months now

GiggyThePomeranian · 24/08/2020 20:44

24 weeks pregnant too and working stood up all day wearing a mask. Are you sure you're not dehydrated? Maybe low blood pressure?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/08/2020 20:44

I’ve had to stop wearing a mask, or pulling it down when not directly engaging with someone- 29wks pregnant, low blood pressure, Ive started getting dizzy. IMO I’m exempt and I’ll happily tell anyone when questioned. I have been wearing one until the last couple of wks.

pinkpetal2 · 24/08/2020 20:47

Take it off. When I was pregnant my bump was so high it put a lot of pressure on my chest area I can only imagine what a mask would contribute.

Yorkshirelass251 · 24/08/2020 21:05

Thank you all, appreciate the replies - this was in Wilko today, it was warm inside the shop too which I think made things worse. In Leeds City centre there still seems to be quite a lot of queuing in different shops but the supermarkets at least are better.

Thanks for everyone's understanding, I have had everything checked. Just find the mask makes me struggle, particularly when standing, but I'll have to resort to pulling it to one side when absolutely necessary.

I'm 25 weeks and the last two weeks I've found myself getting really dizzy and faint in the supermarket when wearing a mask. So I've gotten myself a silk jersey mask and it has made the world of difference and I don't feel dizzy or faint when I wear it. My skin is still in pieces under it but I can deal with that.

Cobbsgirl92 · 25/08/2020 10:54

I understand where your coming from OP. I’m 23 weeks and I’m finding it harder when the shops are hot, the queues are long and the mask almost makes you feel hotter and dizzy.
I’m all for wearing one and I do abide to it in all shops, but sometimes if I can’t bare it any longer I take it off to take a big deep breath, wipe the sweat off my face (yuck!) and then carry on.
I’ve found if I rush around and get myself hot and bothered it makes it worse, so I’ve tried to not rush and just wander at my own pace.
Supermarkets are much better and cooler which is a bonus!
I do online shop, but for my sanity I need to get out some days. Not for long but sometimes seeing other people (from a distance) and just getting a couple of bits I need makes the world of difference to my mental health and sanity.
Take it easy Smile

Im nearly 25 weeks, i have a huge bump already (big babies!) And due to complications ive been told not to take my iron tablets. I constantly suffer with mild anemia, but pregnancy makes it so much worse and i get breathless and dizzy. I have to wear a mask for work but i literally remove it every chance i get as i honestly feel like i cant breathe. Have an appointment in 3 weeks that im hoping will find a way to help, either by telling me not to wear one or finding a solution to the anemia symptoms! No real advice for you sorry, just wanted to say youre not alone and some of us really are struggling with masks.

liquoricecravings · 25/08/2020 11:30

Personally, I'm much happier going to the shops now that everyone is expected to wear a mask. I'm nearly at my due date and although I'm being very cautious about SD and avoiding going out too much, I've been so pleased to have some of the baby shopping experience in the last couple of weeks of my pregnancy.
I have fainted quite a lot in the past and the feeling is horrible. I came over faint in one shop recently but found a chair and waited until I felt better. I always carry water with me and often food of some sort just in case - perhaps you could add these to your bag when you go out? I don't think it's the mask that will make you feel faint.

Mummapenguin20 · 25/08/2020 14:53

Towards the end of my pregnancy my mask made me physically sick! I could not wear one. To the point i forced myself for hospital appointments threw fear of covid and threw up everywhere. Baby now 3 weeks old and screams if i wear a mask so i just dont bother. Babys know mummy from there face so covering it they dunno who there looking at x

EBM20 · 25/08/2020 20:36

I'm 27 weeks and I keep forgetting about the whole face mask in shops and other places. Today I went to Costa to treat my niece to a hot chocolate and walked in completely forgetting about wearing a mask and nobody said anything, I didn't realise/remember until I sat down! Then later on I went into the kiosk at the petrol station and once again completely forgot and nobody said anything!

TheFoz · 25/08/2020 20:47

Just for those who think that a mask protects you, it doesn’t. It lessens the risk of you passing the infection on to others, that’s why it is important that we all wear them. Understandably a lot of people can’t. I find it difficult wearing it for long periods and I’m only 11 weeks.
Would wearing a visor be an option op? I live in Ireland and they are acceptable here.
