I'll be 31 weeks on Tuesday and the last time I heard from my midwife was on the 12th august confirming dates of appointments but not actually booking one in. She said she needed to see me asap really to do ( at the time ) 28 week bloods and to measure to see how baby she growing. I've messaged her since in case she didn't get my message and still no luck in getting a reply ( this was a week ago ). What to do???

Do you have a midwifery team? I’ve not seen my dedicated midwife since 7 weeks... I’m now 35 weeks! I stopped trying her directly even though she gave me her mobile as I hadn’t heard from her since lockdown! My health board gives you a midwifery team that have a dedicated number so I just that if I need to follow up on results/sort out appointments 😊

BeMorePacific · 23/08/2020 22:36

I’d give them a call. At my trust they can all see each other’s diaries, so even if you speak to another midwife they should be able to book you in x

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 23/08/2020 22:42

Depends how they do things in your trust. In mine you can call the team office and you can also make a midwife appointment at your gp surgery by ringing them. I've just been on annual leave for 2 weeks. If you rang my mobile the voicemail message would let you know and give you an alternative number and if you emailed me you'd get an automatic reply with alternative contacts but if you just sent me a text then you'd still be waiting. In dreading turning my phone on in the morning!

Freckleyou20 · 23/08/2020 22:49

@FreyaFirstTimeMum I'll have to give my maternity notes a check to see if I can find a number to ring. I just don't want to ring up and be that moany one as I know they're busy people. But I just need to know for my own sanity that baby's growing well. It would of been 2 weeks this Wednesday since I'd had a reply, is that long enough or do I leave it longer? I just don't wanna be a pest

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea I'm not 100% how the trust where I live do things. I think I'll just ring the midwife office and give a brief explanation and see if I'm in the right place or if they can direct me if I'm not. That's exactly why I haven't phoned the midwife office sooner in case my midwife is on leave or something because I could imagine everyone would be doing the same thing. Must be overwhelming turning your phone on after 2 weeks off with everyone trying to get through. I just don't wanna be one of them people that put on extra stress for her.

@BeMorePacific Thank you! Fingers crossed they work similarly to your trust

I never got a response from 'my' midwife. Find your community midwife number in your notes or ring hospital antenatal and they can transfer you to the correct team.

Freckleyou20 · 23/08/2020 23:58

@kirstyyt That's what her job role is, a community midwife who is allocated to me sort of thing. I've tried phoning my hospital antenatal department for midwife related questions before and was simply told I'm not at the right department so I asked if I could have name of department I need or a number I can call and she seemed very confused and said no sorry and hung up the phone. I've had a look on my maternity notes and there's a printed section where there's room for community midwife to write office number and triage number but she hasn't written it down.

Oh gosh. Don’t worry about being a pest. Pest as much as you need to receive the care you need for yourself and your baby.
There is nothing wrong with politely asserting yourself. Seriously.
This is not what you’re asking but I think
It’s good practice. I found it’s a skill I needed through pregnancy and during labour especially..

Freckleyou20 · 24/08/2020 00:16

@Edinburghfalls I didn't get a choice on wether I wanted to be worried about being a pest or not during labour with my first lol they must of thought I was some sort of monster lol. I guess that's one good thing about when in labour, not giving a care in the world about what anyone thinks

If you don't get a response by midmorning, maybe ring your GP surgery and ask if they know what the midwife team number is (avoid the 8am phone queues though)

niki26 · 24/08/2020 09:40

Last time I saw my community Midwives they said they would call me to book my 32 week appointment - they never did and I'm 37 weeks now.

BUT I didn't chase it because I am consultant led and so have had growth scans and BP/urine etc checked at 32 and 36 weeks. I wouldn't be comfortable if I'd been left without seeing anyone at all.
