Hi everyone, firstly I apologise as I’m sure this has been discussed a lot but I’m looking for some up to date opinions please. Smile

We have a next to me crib for our bedroom at night time, but for daytime naps I don’t want to lug this downstairs and back each day as we have a three storey house. We have a lay flat car seat that attaches to our pushchair, but I’m considering purchasing the carrycot to use for the daytime in the house that I could clip on to the pushchair and could go out for walks etc easily? I’ll use the car seat the rest of the time. It’s either that or buy a moses basket and move baby when needed. Costs are coming in about equal! What would you do? Thank you Grin

I'd just get a cheap(ish) Moses basket for the house, they outgrow them and carry cots fairly quickly so it's not worth spending a lot on one. I've got my own car so the buggy wasn't always necessarily in the house depending on what I was doing that day/weeks and I wouldn't have wanted the buggy coming into the living areas of the house anyway due to mucky wheels.

I've bought a Moses basket and then when he grows out of that I'll be putting him down for his naps in his nursery and bedtime, he will be in our room in his next to me crib too.

Thank you @Footlooseandfancy @lockdownpregnancy 😊 I would put the carrycot or Moses basket on a stand rather than bring the pushchair inside as I too will probably keep it in one of the cars! However I will be using it for daily walks and thought clipping the carrycot straight on would save me disturbing baby.
I will need something downstairs until they’re a bit older, the sleepyhead has been recommend to me quite a lot too! So many options! Shock

Our carrycot is a lifesaver for naps.
If baby won’t settle I put in carrycot and can wheel him around kitchen or garden to settle to sleep.
Out and about I wouldn’t want to use car seat on wheels even if lie flat unless needed ie in and out car, etc. It’s isn’t completely lie flat, and no where near as good for their spines. Today my 3 month old napped for 2hrs this morning and 1hr this afternoon outside in carrycot. He was in car seat in car driving for around 1hr 30 ( 30minsx3 roughly, I wouldn’t have wanted the extra 3 hrs in car seat

Thanks @Caspianberg Smile
I am totally comfortable using my car seat in the flat position when out and about even for prolonged periods, I’ve got a number of friends who’ve used the same one and have found it brilliant. For in the house, I can buy a Moses basket and move baby to the flat car seat to go out for walks etc or I could get a carrycot and avoid having to move them and use this instead of a Moses basket, just unsure what to do! Lots of people recommending the sleepyhead too!

Expecting an October baby here - I have a next2me upstairs, a bouncer that can lie flat downstairs, and our pram can lie flat as well but I only intend on her napping in that if we've just come in from a walk and she's still asleep. I have just caved and bought a Moses basket with a stand as well - the bouncer is okay for short stretches but needed something with a firmer base. Fully expecting that she'll reject all of these options and only want to sleep on me 😂

In your situation, I'd just get a carry cot so long as it's safe for extended periods of sleeping. Just means less transferring of baby to Moses basket and vice versa!

bumblingalonghappily · 23/08/2020 19:29

I bought a stand that my pram carrycot fit on- the stand itself was supposed to be for a Moses basket but I didn't see the point of that as babies grow out of them so quickly! Having the pram carrycot on the rocking stand was great- as you say I could transfer him from my living room to the pram frame without him stirring if I needed to go out! This was last year and I'll be doing the same for my baby due next March.

Also had a sleepyhead for him to nap in downstairs if I was in a different room- I felt very safe using it when I was fully supervising him during the day and he loved it.

Thank you @Nibor1991 definitely see your point, I would go with what @bumblingalonghappily did and get a stand I think! I am going to invest in a bouncer too, perhaps one I can move around easily for the times I need to just take a shower or dry my hair! Grin but generally being downstairs there are many options I need to just think what will best suit us! I hear ya though @otterbaby - we buy these things and the baby then just wants us! Hmm

These are amazing and fold away easily too worth having a look as they last a lot longer than a moses basket and there is various colours available

I can't recommend the BabyBjorn bouncer enough if you're looking for a lightweight one that can be moved around easily with one hand. It's very expensive new but reasonably priced second hand and has great re-sale possibilities.

My only regret is not buying it til DS was 4 months as it can be used from birth, I think, and it kept DS occupied for hours on end! Definitely our best buy!

Letshavesometea · 24/08/2020 22:04

I got a travel cot for a corner of the living room. Perfect for naps, as they grew it was a safe place to put them when I need to pop to the toilet or put dinner on, and now use it for trips away (not that we've had many lately!) Not expensive either.
